Varsity Tutors can help any student preparing to apply for an independent or magnet school get started with comprehensive Nashville ISEE prep. The ISEE, or Independent School Entrance Exam, was designed to provide insight about prospective students to the schools they apply to. The exam can be challenging to prepare for due to the broad range of concepts and skills it assesses. No matter where your student is at in their test prep, we can get them set up with preparation that can make their test review more efficient and effective. Our educational consultants can give you a hand as you figure out the best option for your student.
What can my student review with Nashville ISEE prep?
There are four levels of the ISEE: Primary, Lower, Middle, and Upper. The Primary is split into three levels as well: Primary 2, Primary 3, and Primary 4. All levels contain reading and math questions, along with a writing prompt section. However, the higher the level of the exam, the more advanced the material is.
The Primary Level ISEE is available to students who are entering 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. These tests serve as a basic assessment for elementary-level students. There are three sections on each test: Writing, Math, and Reading. These sections measure your student's basic reading, math, vocabulary, and writing skills. The Writing portion is an unscored sample based on a picture prompt. Primary 2 has an additional section: Auditory Comprehension. It focuses on your student's ability to hear, understand, and answer questions based on spoken content.
Students entering the 5th and 6th grades can take the Lower Level ISEE. The Middle Level ISEE is administered to students preparing to enter the 7th and 8th grades. Lastly, the Upper Level is available to students entering 9th grade and higher. These three contain the same basic set up of questions, time limits, and sections. There are five sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math Achievement, and Essay. Your student has 20 minutes on the Verbal Reasoning, 35 on the Reading Comprehension and Quantitative Reasoning, 40 on the Math Achievement, and 30 on the Essay. The Essay is unscored. Your student is able to use it to demonstrate their writing, organizational, and planning skills, as well as give prospective schools a glimpse of their personality and creativity.
The Lower Level ISEE covers foundational skills that your student should have, such as simple probability, elementary and middle school-level vocabulary, symmetry, and identifying an author's tone and style. Students taking the Middle Level will need to demonstrate similar, yet more advanced abilities. For instance, your student will need to have a strong grasp of integer comparison, prime factorization, Latin and Greek roots, figurative language, and more. The Upper Level is the most advanced form of this exam. This level consists of a variety of concepts, such as analyzing data sets to make an inference, using coordinate grids to solve problems, and an understanding of the features of different genres of literature.
Thorough test prep can make a difference in your student's performance on the ISEE. Regardless of the level of their exam, Varsity Tutors can get your student set up with a form of review that can help them review the skills they will need.
How can my student benefit from different types of Nashville ISEE prep?
There are many different types of learning personalities, which can affect a student's ability to absorb the material. We can get your student set up with one or both of the most reliable forms of prep around: private tutoring and prep courses. Read on to learn more about the different types of Nashville ISEE preparation and how your student could benefit from each.
Students who enjoy working alongside others as they learn can sign up for a Nashville ISEE prep course. Every week, new courses start up in multiple sections of the test to allow even the busiest of students to find a session that aligns with their scheduling needs. Courses are led by an expert instructor who has a thorough understanding of the test and what it takes to perform well on it. Following a set curriculum, your student's course can dive deep into the exam's content, timing, expectations, and other requirements. Group discussions can give your student a chance to talk through different strategies and concepts, which can help deepen their understanding of the material. The course instructor can introduce students to new ways to approach a section and give them time to practice their skills. If your student has trouble with something, they can arrange to meet one-on-one with their instructor to work through it.
On the other hand, private learning can serve as a valuable resource that can help your student make the most of their time before the test. A Nashville ISEE tutor can devise study sessions that focus solely on the areas of the test which your student finds the most challenging. If they feel confident about the Math Achievement and Quantitative Reasoning sections, their instructor can focus their attention on the Reading Comprehension and Verbal Reasoning portions instead. A personal tutor can assess your student's learning personality to change up their teaching methods to better appeal to your student's preferences. They may use a variety of different learning materials to help your student feel engaged with the information, such as sample problems, writing prompts, literature to analyze, and more. Throughout each session, your student's instructor can keep your student moving through content at a pace that is ideal for their development.
How can my student get set up with Nashville ISEE prep?
Comprehensive test preparation can give your student the opportunity to hone their knowledge while developing test-taking and study skills. These can help them throughout their educational career, regardless of where they go. Varsity Tutors can get them set up with a Nashville ISEE prep class or connected with a private mentor who can offer excellent support. Our educational consultants can help you figure out which option is ideal for your student. Get in touch for more information today.
