Varsity Tutors can set your student up with Buffalo ISEE prep services. These services can help your student to prepare effectively for this important exam. Many Independent Schools consider the ISEE as a part of the admissions process, and a high score on the ISEE can make a significant difference for your student's application and academic future.
The ISEE is a series of standardized exams designed to assess a student's skill in a number of key academic areas. The exams are arranged based on the grade the student will enter the following school year. The Primary Level of the ISEE has three tests (2,3, and 4). The Lower Level ISEE is for students preparing to enter 5th and 6th grade. The Middle-Level exam is for incoming 7th and 8th-graders. Those who take the Upper Level will be entering grades 9 and up.
What can my student learn during Buffalo ISEE prep?
The Primary Level ISEE has three sections that appear in the 2, 3, and 4 exams. These sections are Reading, Math, and a Writing Sample. The Primary Level 2 exam also has an Auditory Comprehension section. These exams cover foundational academic skills that are necessary throughout a person's life. The Lower, Middle, and Upper-Level exams involve more specialized skills. There are five sections in these exams which are Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math Achievement, and an Essay section. These sections have the same number of questions, time constraints, and layout across all three exams. However, the content becomes progressively more difficult as the age of the student increases.
During the Verbal Reasoning section of the ISEE, students must answer 40 questions that are based on sentence completion and synonyms. These questions aim to discern how well a student understands and uses the English language. Each level of the exam requires students to understand certain vocabulary words and be able to use context to discover the meaning of words or phrases. The Middle Level and Upper Level both require students to have a good understanding of the parts of speech, prefixes and suffixes, and word roots. Students will have 20 minutes to complete this section.
The Quantitative Reasoning section assesses a student's ability to reason based on mathematical principles. The 37 questions in this section are more concerned with a student's understanding of mathematical thinking rather than with the ability to utilize particular operations. However, students still must be able to effectively compute and perform some operations. This section gives students 35 minutes to display their knowledge of data analysis, problem-solving, and identifying the characteristics of geometric objects.
In the 35-minute long Reading Comprehension section, students need to be able to show that they understand the main ideas, organization, and intent of passages that appear on the exam. There are 36 questions that require students to evaluate cause and effect, use inferences to understand information that is not stated in the text, and compare and contrast information.
The Essay section of the ISEE gives students half an hour to respond to a prompt. The prompt is intended to suit the interests of the student's particular age group. This essay allows students to share more about themselves while constructing a clear, well-organized essay. Students need to use details well and write clearly and effectively.
What can Buffalo ISEE prep do to help my student get ready for the exam?
For your student's Buffalo ISEE prep, there are two paths that you can choose. If you believe that your student will learn best in a group environment, they can attend a Buffalo ISEE prep course. These online classes allow your student to learn from the instructor and the collaborative atmosphere. However, for students who learn best in one-on-one situations, there are Buffalo ISEE tutors available as well. Each of these options can help your student to prepare effectively for the exam.
If your student takes part in a Buffalo ISEE prep class, they will learn in a virtual classroom from a skilled instructor alongside students who are getting ready for the same exam. In addition to listening to their instructor's lecture, your student can have real-time interactions with their classmates that solidify the whole group's understanding of the content. The instructor can provide a thorough overview of the exam content, and they can also take extra time to address areas that are challenging for the whole group. By discussing the content from a variety of perspectives and viewpoints, your student can learn the material in a complex way. This can help your student to internalize the material for the exam.
There are new sessions of Buffalo ISEE prep classes that begin weekly. You can choose a session that fits your student's schedule, and you can choose between two and four-week sessions. Because these sessions are online, your student can learn from anywhere with an internet connection.
During sessions with a Buffalo ISEE tutor, your student can experience the benefits of a study plan devoted to their particular needs. Your student can focus their time on the content and skills that are most important for their goals. Their academic mentor can also present the content in ways that help them to process the information effectively. Your student can even spend time learning test-taking strategies that address the particular challenges and time constraints of the exam. The feedback and guidance their mentor gives them can help them maximize their preparation and increase their confidence as the exam draws near.
