Microbiology Tutoring review by Nanditha in Calumet City, IL
Revising electronics for neurobiologists understanding the electronics basis for membrane potential. She understood the logic of it, but was overwhelmed with the equations her grades are yet to come. She could answer questions better than I could! I'm very happy with that!

Microbiology Tutoring review by Micah in Calumet City, IL
She and I briefly went over gas laws and intermolecular forces. We discussed the differences between Boyle's Law, Charles' Law, Avogadro's Law, and the Ideal Gas Equation. At the end of the session, she and I did a practice problem with the Ideal Gas Equation. She had a very positive attitude towards the material considering she had just started learning the material, and it was somewhat unfamiliar. I did not leave her any practice to do before our next session because I wanted to see what more she would cover in class before I assigned her any problems. She struggled a bit with remembering to convert her units. However, I'm sure, with more practice problems, she will be able to correctly identify the proper units needed.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Toni in Calumet City, IL
She and I completed her post and pre-lab assignments for her class this week. She only needed some reassurance to complete both assignments; she is really a bright girl! Since they have not started any new topics outside of experiments, we briefly touched on the next chapter: redox reactions. I did not want to overwhelm her by getting ahead so we just did a soft introduction. Redox reactions, at this level, are fairly straight forward, especially with a leg up!

Microbiology Tutoring review by Sarah in Calumet City, IL
She and I continued where we left off with our last tutoring session - reviewing materials in preparation for her first midterm exam. First, she and I worked through specific questions that she had pertaining to the content we covered. We talked quite a bit about levels of data measurement and hypothesis testing. Once those key questions were answered, we finished working through the past exam that she was using as a study aid. We focused on the questions that she answered incorrectly, discussing the correct answer, and how to arrive at that answer for each question. I also used quite a few examples to make concepts easier to understand. Overall, the session went really well. Later in the day, she emailed to let me know she took her online midterm early because she was feeling so prepared and scored an 85% (she was very happy with this score since the class is quite difficult and because she had failed past exams).

Microbiology Tutoring review by Evan in Calumet City, IL
She and I covered amino acid properties and groups today, and I provided her with 6 different mnemonics to remember the different groups of amino acids. We also covered elongation and termination for transcription and important aspects of both processes. Lastly, we reviewed the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, and we worked through a problem for her test review together. She has a good grasp on this material, and I think she will do well on her upcoming test. I am looking forward to hearing what her grade is!

Microbiology Tutoring review by Simon in Calumet City, IL
She and I discussed the work she's doing in class and prepared for her upcoming midterm. She has several strong ideas about sustainability, globalization, and policy, and much of our work was on organizing these ideas into cohesive arguments. We also worked on some of the underlying principles of sustainability studies, particularly how global climate change works, and why fossil fuel use leads to higher average temperatures. One of the main areas for growth that we both noticed was that she can be more structured in her writing and planning, and we spent the last bit on ways to organize her thoughts.
