I am a graduate student at Baylor College of Medicine, where I am working on a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling. I have professional experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and other unique learning styles. I love empowering students to be introspective in understanding their academic strengths and weaknesses and to use those to their advantage when coming up with study skills. I've tutored formally and informally for almost my entire life and enjoy making students love what they learn while achieving their academic goals.I majored in Biology and English when I was an undergraduate student at Penn State Harrisburg, and those are the two subjects I love teaching the most. For Biology, I feel confident in teaching material from a sub-cellular/chromosomal level all the way up to population genetics and epidemiology. As part of my biology degree, I gained a foundational understanding in general and organic chemistry, cell biology, statistics, developmental biology, and anatomy. I also love mentoring students on how to write organized, professional essays and papers in both STEM and humanities classes, and can proofread and edit any writing if you want me to.For younger students, I focus more on developing independent study skills that will take you all the way through middle school, high school, and college. I do this by making learning fun and engaging, for students with a shorter attention span who need more dynamic teaching methods. Once you get the hang of it, almost any material can be learned, because YOU know how to teach it to yourself! (A fair amount of tips and tricks are also used!)

I believe that all students are able to learn, they just need to be not only taught by the right instructor, but the materials at hand must be presented in a manner in which the student is learning. Furthermore, the lessons presented must be engaging, interactive, and tailored to suit each student. My ideal session is in which my students are not just using new learning tools, but their continued successes are noteworthy of praise for a continued life of exposure to a plethora of pedagogy and rigor matched to their specific needs.

I obtained my Bachelors from CMSU in 5-9 Science/Language Arts teacher education and certifications from multiple states and the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (Overseas Military schools) in 5-12 (Middle/Secondary School) for General Science, English/Language Arts and Biology subject areas. I have been working with students in multiple settings for over 30 years and have over 18 years experience in various educational settings to include church, private, charter, public, home-school, co-op and virtual platforms. While home-schooling, I had my oldest reading between 12-18 months of age and my youngest by 18-24 months old,both very fluent prior to age 2. They were both 2-4 grade levels ahead of peers in many subjectareas. I recently graduated from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY with my BA in English Literature and Secondary Education. I plan on attending Marist College in Summer 2017 to obtain my Master's in Educational Psychology. My passion for English had started in my early days in elementary school when I used reading and writing as an escape, and a way to express my feelings when I felt like I wasn't being listened to. However my passion for Education arose when I found I genuinely enjoyed helping my peers with their homework, with lessons, and even with projects. I love to see the look of students and peers when they finally understand something that had been escaping them. I also just really like helping people in anyway that I can.Although, don't be frightened, I'm actually a pretty relatable person so if something is bothering you, don't be afraid and know you can tell me. I've helped many peers in the past both with their coursework and also with things that were bothering them. I completed my Master's degree in English and worked as a Graduate Tutor for the writing center. I wrote my Master's thesis on Rachel Carson, one of the founders of modern environmentalism, and I'm personally interested in environmental science writing and nature writing of all kinds.In my free time I enjoy hiking, gardening (I'm getting to know the quirks of growing food in the desert), video games, listening to comedy podcasts, and working out. I also worked as a summer camp counselor and program director for six years.I love working with all kinds of students, particularly EFL learners and new writers who want to improve on their ability to communicate and express their ideas.I also worked on a minor in Spanish during my undergrad.
