Session Summaries by History Tutors

History Tutoring review by Alysa in Kansas City, MO
The student reviewed for her possible history quiz. She was able to elaborate on all of the key terms we went over yesterday. We used the book to enhance any gaps in knowledge on the terms. This unit is going from the Monroe Doctrine through Jackson's presidency. I think it would still benefit her from making her own timeline of the events. It gets slightly confusing as to who was president, what their political views were, and how that influenced policy at the time.

I met with the student tonight to work on biology and Roman history. Due to time constraints he were not able to finish his biology project, but I am confident that the finished project will be terrific. The remainder of the session was dedicated toward an in-depth history exam review. The student was feeling very confident with the subject matter after running through the material several times. I believe that he is fully prepared for the exam.

The student is working on a term paper about Abraham Lincoln. She has done little research to this point, but we discussed her thesis and began outlining a direction for her paper. She plans on doing some reading from the course-assigned text to expand her paper between now and our next session. We plan to have another tutoring session tomorrow night.

History Tutoring review by John in Kansas City, MO
The student and I spent the first 20 minutes discussing her previous tutoring experiences with her Speech Language Pathologist, her learning disability, and how we could most effectively approach each tutoring session. We will approach history by reading segments together and discussing key points, how to summarize, etc. We will tackle English next time. She seems willing to learn and optimistic about the tutoring change.
