I graduated from the University of Kansas with undergraduate degrees in accounting and finance and also hold a MS degree in finance from American University. After finishing my education, I spent 5 years in the Navy on active duty. With over eight years of tutoring experience, I am most passionate about working with students in finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, and philosophy courses because these subjects present so many challenges that require intricate attention to detail and a broader view of what is taking place. That said, I am qualified and willing to help you reach success in all the subjects in which I am approved to tutor.

Often times, students get bogged down in the numbers of heavily quantitative subjects without seeing the bigger picture, which is a key point of emphasis I like to provide while tutoring. I have also tutored high school algebra, calculus, science, English, and test preparation for a wide array of standardized exams.

I started tutoring classmates informally while in college and accepted several teaching assistant positions that enabled me to clearly explain course concepts to students with various backgrounds. While completing a master's degree in finance, I specialized in tutoring introductory and advanced finance courses to undergraduate students.

Instead of lecturing students, I subscribe to a learn by doing method that enable you to articulate core concepts in your own words after hearing an explanation and always provide guidance that helps in understanding. Each student has a different way of absorbing new material, and to ignore those critical differences in learning styles could be detrimental in development and your success. In some coursework for example, it can be so tempting to give up and settle for a grade that does not reflect your true potential. However, with the right attitude and patience, the best grades can be achieved in these subjects because I am willing to go to great lengths to ensure you have the resources to succeed.

In my free time, I love to spend time outside hiking, running, biking, and fishing.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I'll discuss expectations with the student and plan specific and measurable goals that we can work towards as a team.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Positive reinforcement and encouragement. I'll never quit on a student, especially if that student wants to quit on themselves.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

After careful observation of the student's thought patterns, I leverage years of tutoring experience to explain ideas and concepts in a way that meets the student at their current level of understanding.
