English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Jonathan in Reading, PA
The student and I again worked on a page from his critical reading workbook and finished his creative short story. Upon reading his short story to him, it is apparent that he has difficulty thinking "outside the box," meaning he demonstrates difficulty in the process of making up a story. Most of his choices in the story are fairly straightforward and logical (e.g., his main character is kidnapped and the police get involved,) suggesting highly logical cause and effect thinking. I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with this, but it does seem to hinder his thinking about more abstract concepts.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Caitlyn in Reading, PA
This session was focused on some reading exercises, and summarizing information into his blog post English assignments. We also read some sections of plays, to which the student was very energetic and intrigued with the reading. After speaking with his parents, we agreed to focus on his writing skills in the future, with an emphasis on grammar. I also plan to incorporate some debate skills and argument building to better his writing for class assignments.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Amy in Reading, PA
The student answered questions about her life using past tense verb forms. She practiced with the simple past, past progressive, past perfect, present perfect and past perfect progressive. She read aloud from a New York Times article, working on her pronunciation, especially of 'th' sounds. We discussed unfamiliar vocabulary words and she reviewed a list of medical terms to make sure that she understood all of them. Next week we will concentrate on the future tense and work on another article.

The student and I worked on SAT vocabulary, reading comprehension, and effective essay writing. He is working on higher-level word choice, presenting clear and concise arguments, and the importance of the revision process. He was positive and good natured as always! He had homework to complete for next session: review vocabulary cards and write sentences for troublesome words, prepare for vocab quiz, study notes from our six traits of effective writing lesson, and evaluate and compare evaluations of an argumentative essay. He did well on his last essay assignment at school--97%!

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Davetta in Reading, PA
We continued practicing the -an family (an, can, man, pan, ran). The student can recognize and read these on his own. We practiced sight words we, go, do, to, and me. He can read these words as well on his own. I left the new sight words - who, what, give, says, they, and very. We practiced his phonics - short vowel sounds to begin the lesson and get him involved.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Adrienne in Reading, PA
The student wrote her spelling words 3x each. I quizzed her on her words and she was able to spell all of them correctly. She then completed her math review worksheets to prepare for her exam on Thursday. She completed all 2-digit and 3-digit addition problems independently with ease. She then completed her math homework worksheet. She read Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow moon by Cynthia Rylant. She read fluently, answered questions about the story, and made predictions.
