Realizing how much I enjoy editing my sons' and my wife's research papers I decided to go into tutoring. I have an Arts and Humanities degree with a focus on Communications.

I have a passion for the written word in a poetic sense as well as with an eye for the concise style expected in research papers and book reports. There is always room to insert personality regardless of what or for whom you are writing.

I look forward to sharing this passion and the correct way of writing everything from fictional stories to properly cited research papers.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I like to keep learning fun and personalized so students can identify with what we are covering.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would introduce myself and ask questions about the student, as well as gather their thoughts on the topic we were going to cover.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would discuss their favorite way to study and retain information: verbally, written, or through sight. I would also find out if a schedule for study time needs to be created, and if any additional structure is needed.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would suggest selecting topics to write on that interest them, and suggest he or she "go outside of their box” with how they present their work.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would break information or story into smaller sections, reviewing each thoroughly. I would, at any opportunity, make the information relevant to the student by finding common topics or opinions.
