I am currently a medical student at the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine with a bachelor's degree in Biology. I truly enjoy all aspects of science from the theory behind the present world to the applied sciences, such as Medicine. As such, I hope to spread the excitement of science to any student I work with. The subject is conceptual and the conclusions often are not obvious and require focus and attention to reveal themselves. When a student is learning and making connections, I have the utmost patience and demonstrate multiple ways to arrive at the same conclusion. I have done extensive tutoring of grades K-12 and also tutored Biology and Chemistry to many of my peers in college. My goal with everyone I tutor is the same, to build an understanding and appreciation of science.

I was lucky to have my teacher in college whom I still call mentor now. Four years in college with this special gift built the cornerstone for who I have become and who I have been striving to be. I am forever grateful to my mentor for she did not only teach me knowledge in books but she also taught me how to be a person. I know that the time I met my mentor was the time my life met its turning point: My life has become different since then.My college memories with my English teacher are sweet and still inspirational. She is a graceful lady with an artistic temperament, delicate yet powerful. She is a living example of how education can change a person and benefit the society. Her influence on me never ceases to remind me of the virtue of helping people change their lives to the best of my ability. And to do that, communication is important and indispensible. The better part of education is communication, in a proper way on the right platforms. I believe one can only do satisfying jobs if he/she has passion for them. I would be more than happy to share my Chinese knowledge and experiences with friends from various backgrounds and cultures. I would treat my students the way I want to be treated by a responsible and insightful teacher.I am just as curious as every student and I am sure I will be a good student to my students in other respects because from each other we can always learn something.Receiving a Master's degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communication from New York University and a Bachelor's degree in English and American Literature, I tutor Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese.

I am a retired English teacher with 33 years of teaching English grammar, composition, and literature in two public school districts at the secondary level. I hold both a B.A. degree and M. A. degree in language arts from SIU-Edwardsville, Illinois. For several years I continued academic studies at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, where I pursued a doctorate degree in English and American literature. Although I completed all course requirements with a 3.666 average based on a 4.000 scale, I did not select my committee of professors for the requisite oral exams, nor did I produce a dissertation. Some significant circumstances demanded my focus and resolution to such an extent that I never returned to St. Louis University. However, I must admit that I wish I had. From November 1972 to June 1979, I taught English at Sumner High School, where I received seven years of invaluable training and experience in classroom management and curriculum development. The latter part of my teaching career was spent in East St. Louis School District 189 at East St. Louis Senior High School (September 1979-June 2002) and Lincoln Middle School (September 2002-June 2005). I was chairman of the English Department at East St. Louis Senior High for eight academic years. I was blessed to receive teacher awards and recognition variously from St. Clair County, students and parents, and commendations from fellow teachers, counselors, and my principal. I thank God for enabling me to develop a fervent passion and professional integrity that grew stronger and never diminished as an educator! In addition, I am blessed to be effective and successful as a seminary professor. I am currently employed as Professor of Pastoral Theology in the master's program at Anchor Theological Seminary and Bible Institute (East St. Louis extension). I am also a pianist/keyboardist and singer primarily of Christian music at my church and various other Christian venues. For sixteen years I pastored along with my now-deceased wife a non-denominational church, the Agape Family Christian Center in Belleville, Illinois. ("Agape" is a Greek term for God's divine love.) Our three sons were actively involved in every aspect of our Christian ministry. I pledge to help students achieve their stated life goals, and I will relate to each of them with respect and dignity. I pledge to also provide positive feedback and support to motivate them to learn and become proficient in oral and written communication. Accordingly, I will teach functional, standardized English grammar and composition as a tool of effective communication. My emphasis on using critical thinking skills is designed to help students process and evaluate various philosophies and thought patterns prevalent in our world. It is my hope that students engage in independent research in various fields. It is my hope that they each will work to contribute meaningfully to the betterment of all humanity without fear and without apology. Toward these ends, I will urge their parents/guardians to participate meaningfully in their child's educational, social, emotional, psychological, and moral development. I welcome the challenge to inspire my students to maintain a sense of moral urgency and commitment to the highest ideals of our American democracy. I welcome the challenge to motivate them to pay honor, dignity, and respect to others regardless of race, creed, nationality, ethnicity, color, gender, religion, and any other individual distinctions that tend to divide us as a nation. I welcome the challenge to inspire them to be perpetual learners, teachers, philosophers, statesmen, ambassadors, and humanitarians. I will pray that God will undergird their efforts to help change our nation--indeed, our world--for the betterment of all mankind.

I'm a senior working towards B.S. in Biology, secondary major in Spanish, and minors in chemistry and bioethics at Case Western Reserve University. I'm originally from Naperville, IL, and attended Neuqua Valley and IMSA. I have several years of tutoring experience with high school students in biology, chemistry, and writing, as well as teaching experience with nursing and pre-medical college students, teaching biology and chemistry as a Supplemental Instruction Leader and Teaching Assistant. The subjects I tutor are the subjects I love; biology, chemistry, Spanish, and the LSAT. My approach to tutoring is to ensure the student is able to dynamically problem-solve by and for themselves and walks away with a deeper understanding of not just the "what" of the material but the "why". I believe it's important to understand the student's goals in the wider context of what the course or exam will ask of them, and tailor my approach to their individual learning style and needs. Resources I typically use include worksheets I create with conceptual and factual problems for the student to work through, building from small concepts like definitions up towards more challenging problems to check their understanding requiring synthesis and application of several concepts.

Every truth has four corners: as a teacher I give you one corner, and it is for you to find the other three.-ConfuciusAs a tutor it is my goal to not only teach my students the material they need to learn, but to better their core understanding of a subject and their methods of learning for the future. This way, they can continue to learn at an advanced level long after they no longer require the service of a tutor.

Hello! I am a rising 1L at the University of Chicago Law School with a background tutoring students from 5th grade through undergrad. As an undergraduate, I attended Wesleyan University where I studied religious studies, philosophy, European history, and theoretical economics. While there, I won honors for my writing and research. For students interested in improving their writing, I work with all age groups to cultivate an ear for rhythm, an eye for detail, a mind for research--and a stomach for revision, revision, revision. For the LSAT, we will come up with a plan for preparing that is customized to your schedule and goals. This plan will likely include daily drilling with real LSAT problems, supplemented by book reading and practice tests. During our sessions that target logical reasoning sections, we will focus on argument structure. We will work on identifying conclusions, premises, and assumptions in arguments, as well as how to use these skills to answer necessary and sufficient assumption questions. For analytical reasoning (logic games), we will break down the three most common types of games and focus on maintaining accuracy while building solving speed. Finally, for reading comprehension, we will work together to come up with an approach that emphasizes your strengths (like reading quickly, remembering details, annotating effectively) to move towards a higher score.I am looking forward to meeting you!
