I am originally from New York City and am a student at the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science, Economics, and Psychology. Having gone through high school and the whole college process within recent memory, I am at the unique intersection of having a very current understanding of the challenges, and of having gained experience and perspective from college. I started tutoring as soon as I had real knowledge to share, which for me was in the eighth grade. In the way a six-year-old might feel an unwavering sense of duty and pride from being charged with returning scissors to the desk, I felt the true significance of the job I had been given. Tutoring has never lost this importance for me and I continue to approach each student with the same level of preparation and commitment as I did all those years ago. As both a nationally-ranked swimmer and a student I learned meticulous organization and time management. Throughout my academic and professional life, writing and reading critically have not only been my strong suit, but my passion. As a tutor, I'm committed to awakening and strengthening that same passion in my students through an emphasis on creative expression and a fun, but rigorous, approach to essay writing. Often the hardest thing for a young writer is forming a unique point of view on a prescribed prompt or topic, especially one that may seem less than relevant to their own life. My goal is to do just that: rouse their natural enthusiasm for a subject and help them support it with evidence that's laid out in a compelling, causal structure. Focusing on causal transitions between paragraphs is a skill rarely taught in secondary education, but often expected at the college level. I learned this the hard way. But my years of writing-intensive tutorial classes at Williams College, combined with my professional experience as a theater director and script editor, have provided me with a range of strategies to help students see their writing as a performance of their thinking.As a history tutor, my approach is similar. It's hard to memorize facts and dates; even harder if you feel personally unconnected to them. Students struggling to memorize people and events in a vacuum need more. I focus on helping my students maintain an active connection to history, boosting and intensifying information retention. I'll help them find unique ways to relate to the past, as well as the note-taking and diagramming methods that work best for them. My students will gain a strong sense of the world in which they live, how it came to be, and how to remember it all when faced with a test or essay.

I have been an educational therapist for many years, tutoring reading, writing, and mathematics to students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia and ADHD. Many of my students are both intellectually gifted and have a learning disability. I have a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Michigan. I have taught college courses in psychology and organizational behavior, and recently received a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Northern Colorado. I enjoy working with students of all ages and backgrounds.My tutoring style emphasizes identifying and building upon student strengths, adapting my methods and explanations to best meet the needs of individual students. I enjoy helping students develop specific skills and meet their immediate goals, but I love helping students experience joy in learning.

I am a recent graduate of Williams College, where I studied political science with sidelines in history and English. Next fall, I am headed to Ithaca to study at Cornell Law School. I have over 10 years of experience in the Real Estate and construction world, almost in every field except new builds.

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Grainger School of Engineering. I am working to receive my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering along with a minor in computer engineering. I not only tutor but am passionate in physics and mathematics as they are both the keys to clearly understanding how our world works. I understand every student has many different and optimal ways to learn so I tutor in a way that meshes well with each individual's personality.

I graduated from Wheaton College in 2015 with a double major in Archaeology and Geology. In the future I plan on going to graduate school to get my PhD in Archaeology. I have always loved teaching people about subjects that I myself am passionate about. In the long term I would like to be a college professor, teaching archaeology at a university.My favorite subject to tutor is archaeology, followed by history. Archaeology is an interesting subject because new archaeological discoveries have the ability to change our interpretation of the past. I also teach geology and social studies.My teaching style is all about helping students to learn information with context, fostering their ability to think for themselves. Outside of academia I play guitar and teach wilderness survival. I enjoy archery, woodworking, and making stone tools.

Through my formal education, internships, and jobs, I have gained respect for professions that assist children in educational settings. I have gained valuable work experience while working with children. My first work experience after graduating UCLA was as a Group Leader for middle school students in New York. I advised them on the importance of developing necessary skills while transitioning to young adolescents. Soon after, I worked as an Elementary School Counselor where I supervised children from kindergarten through 5th grade. Currently, I am working as a High 5s Facilitator for Kindergarten students, in where I teach math to students who live in low-income communities.

I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, in the College of Natural Resources. I received my Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology and Management with a minor in Biology. Since graduation, I have worked in several different colleges doing academic advising and student support. I also spent two years teaching water technology and service learning at a juvenile prison, where we built our own aquaponics system! Most recently, I worked for my state department of health and environment, helping to educate the public about how to keep our water resources clean and healthy.While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about math, science and writing. I find that I master topics (like math and science) differently than others, so I value the use of imagery and illustration when learning complex subjects. In my spare time, I play Minecraft and other video games with my children, and sometimes I get the chance to go fishing, which I love to do.
