Tutoring review by Jeff in Glendale Heights, IL
We covered a wide range of different algebra problems that the student was having a hard time understanding. I helped explain to her the correct order of operations to follow and how to approach word problems involving compound interest. I explained to her the way I remember the Order of Operations is PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction. She also had a few questions regarding the buttons on the graphing calculator that I also helped her identify.

The student was working on factoring. She had completed one page of her homework, but was having problems factoring the equations where the leading coefficient was not 1. She likes to use her calculator, but is not allowed to do so on this chapter. We did the first few problems with the calculator, then I had her complete the rest of the problems without it. She was doing much better towards the end. We also discussed how to solve for x.

Tutoring review by Taunita in Glendale Heights, IL
The student and I spent time preparing for her history midterm. I worked with her to review all units covered, including culture, maps, Reconstruction, and types of government. I advised her on how to develop mnemonics to help with memorization of key terms, Amendments, events, and people. She also organized her notes with sticky tabs to bring attention to important terms/ideas to continue to review. She said that she was more comfortable with the material and feels better about taking the exam tomorrow.

Tutoring review by Shawn in Glendale Heights, IL
The student worked on his math homework. I reviewed the concepts in his textbook with him and showed him two ways to approach ratio problems. He preferred the simplification method shown in his book so we focused on using that method consistently. We also explored some of the learning tools online that came with his new book. We then spent the remaining time reviewing fractions as he still struggles with that subject in math. We reviewed the rules of fractions, when to find the least common denominator, and how to add/ subtract, multiply/ divide, and use variables with fractions.

Tutoring review by Joshua in Glendale Heights, IL
We covered hydraulic expansions and examined the mathematical functions dictating it. The student is very quick to pick up the concepts discussed and will excel once he overcomes the learning curve he faces from not having a background working with calculus.
