Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

What year in?

I want to thank VT for connecting me with my English tutor. I'm a 49 yr old that enrolled back in college to complete my degree and I was having the most difficult time meeting the demands of my writing assignments. But fortunately, I was matched with an educator that has made what seemed hopeless in my efforts to write academic papers effectively a piece of cake.

I'm very grateful to have found VT. They made the difference between a pass and fail grade for my son. English was one of his most challenging classes and with Varsity Tutors he passed the course. I'm forever grateful.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

English Tutoring review by Christine in New Braunfels, TX
The student worked from his educational books and rhyming cards to practice writing. He has become much better with "e" and "s" - some of the more difficult letters. He has difficulty with reading and recognizing the distinction between "w," "u," and "y." We are working on that.

English Tutoring review by Jalana in New Braunfels, TX
The student and I worked on developing and focusing her ideas regarding her research paper on the topic of witchcraft for her Western Civ class. I helped her identify three key points to connect the required book reading with her outside sources on witchcraft. I also helped her with ideas of keywords to search for an additional scholarly journal source. Then we brainstormed ideas for the other portion of the paper, which was to explain any inconsistencies or perceived problems/inaccuracies between the book and sources. In addition, she asked about how to use Chicago style footnotes, so I provided her with two reference documents giving guidance and examples of how to use footnotes within the text and cite them at the bottom of the page. She seemed to feel a sense of direction towards the end of our session, and thanked me for helping her organize her thoughts. She said she would work on her paper and then send it to me so we could work further on it tomorrow during our 2 pm session.

English Tutoring review by Cynthia in New Braunfels, TX
We went over the last ten chapters of Sense and Sensibility. We talked about the characters and their fates, then discussed the author's ability to give life to her characters, to criticize different social mores, and her ability to create and upturn conventions in writing. We decided that the student would read The Invisible Man next. We looked over a few pages today to familiarize the student with this particular author's style. It was a good session.

English Tutoring review by Anne Marie in New Braunfels, TX
I had the student pick out book of her interest at library. Before beginning reading aloud, she was asked to read the words she has been practicing. She read aloud "Stink and the Attack of the Slime Mold," and words she had trouble with were written down. After reading aloud, we went over the words she missed during reading. Lastly, we completed paired reading using the Fifth Wave. She will be asked comprehension questions next session. I reviewed math homework on words problems and went over any missed problems with her.

The student just finished a semester in which it looks like she earned all A's and B's. She hasn't received her grades yet, but she thinks she got an A in English. As summer begins, we will be tackling three books in advance of her entering advanced English for the next school year. At this session, we discussed the current book we are reading, An Abundance of Katherines, and set up our reading of Elie Wiesel's Night. She also completed another ACT English practice test. At the next session, she will have finished Katherines, and we'll get a few chapters into Night for discussion and analysis.
