I graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, Health, and Society. I received a minor in Global Health. While at Cornell, I was a teaching assistant and also spent time tutoring young men for their GED exams and fellow students in Biology and Chemistry. I currently tutor various subjects, but feel most strongly about Biology. I also find that I enjoy tutoring for MCAT preparation, as I understand how difficult the process can be, and wish to help others in the way that my own MCAT tutor helped me.

I am passionate about teaching Japanese, and would love to help you meet your language goals! I help students by listening to their aims, setting their goals, motivating students depending on their levels and introducing current and interesting topics in addition to their textbooks. I often assist students outside of lessons by e-mail, and love to teach via Skype to help busy people learn Japanese.I have been teaching Japanese for 25 years, here and abroad. As a professional teacher, I've taught beginning to advanced students, privately, and at universities such as Harvard, The Ohio State University, Indiana University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Hawaii. My students include business people (Microsoft, Boston Scientific, Bosch, IBM), State Department candidates, military officers, spouses, college students and younger children. While my specialty is working with learners to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), I have also helped people learn survival-level Japanese ahead of a business trip, taught specialized vocabulary to land an internship, and helped anime and manga fans better enjoy those popular Japanese arts. The variety of teaching experiences I have had means that I adapt easily to your goal. I am used to working with a variety of students and textbooks, so it is no problem for me to switch between a first-timer learning simple greetings and an advanced student working on complex kanji constructions. Let me help you achieve your goal!

I have always been a passionate learner. I have a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics Economics from Pomona College in Claremont, California and am working on my Masters in International Affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in the City of New York. I have also taught accelerated mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus BC) at the Episcopal School of Los Angeles and economics as a high school elective. Over the past few years of teaching and tutoring, I found great joy in developing that passion in other students. My favorite subject to tutor is upper level mathematics (Algebra II and beyond). This is when the true beauty of mathematics is explored and mathematics begins to have important applications, including what to what I do in international security! I stride to provide a student with creative materials and explanations that best suits their learning style. I am not someone who is satisfied when a student memorizes steps to solve a problem. I always want the student to understand what he/she is doing and why they are doing. This insight will make them a stronger, faster and better student, particularly in the field of mathematics. This brings the student long term results that could extend far beyond the work done in the tutoring sessions. Mathematics is my love and economics is my passion and because of this I bring incredible enthusiasm for the subject to my work. I bring the beauty of mathematics into my explanations, through theoretical and visual interpretations. In my spare time I like to paint and run.

I first discovered my passion for teaching while running statistical analysis and data science workshops for my undergraduate consulting group. When I realized that we could improve the quality of the work we did for our clients by including rigorous data analysis, I made it a priority to help my fellow consultants develop the skills they needed to use these tools. In this context, I developed workshop plans for individual project teams, teaching consultants both the conceptual foundations of the tools we'd be working with and how to apply them with statistical computing software to their data set. My work has helped students on a wide variety of project teams not only provide quality analysis to their clients, but also develop an interest in statistical techniques.I have a passion for mathematics and statistics, and I believe that anyone can learn to use these tools to answer interesting questions in a wide variety of subject areas. I care deeply about helping students understand how math and statistics can be interesting and useful, and how they can leverage their own ways of thinking to motivate intuition about these topics. I believe that no one is "bad at math", and anyone can succeed with the right study plan!Outside of tutoring, I will start a job in the trading division of a large investment bank later this summer. I am also an avid athlete: I love to run, and enjoy just about every fitness class you can imagine. The more intense the better! Additionally, I plan to pursue a PhD in economics, focusing on the economic impacts of gentrification and how we can address them through housing policy.

Since childhood I've had a passion for teaching and learning math. I started actually competing in math tournaments starting in high school, but even in middle school I would do math for fun. Soon realizing my deep passion for math I ended up going to college for mathematics and now currently work as a Junior Java Developer for BGC Partners. That is a quick summary, but more detail below. In High School, I was very into competitive academics. I was on math team, science team, and even history team. My school was brand new so there weren't many people on the teams, but I always tried to make it more fun for people to come. I learned new math tricks on my own to help my fellow teammates. I ended up being district champion in number sense 2 years in a row and top 3 in mathematics those 2 years as well. Even back in high school I loved to help people with math regardless of what year they were or if it would benefit me or not. Now I usually just tutor math because I hope to maybe become a math teacher or professor in the future! Of course that's not for a while and I would have to do my Phd but I think it would be worth it because I believe teaching others math is amazing and it can truly help someone's future and there is no better feeling than that. More importantly personally I think math is just truly magnificent how these formulas and calculations of an intangible idea somehow explain all the real world.
