I am a graduate cum laude of Abilene Christian University with a bachelor of arts in History and a minor in English. I have worked as an assistant editor and have plans to continue onto graduate school with a specialization in the American Gilded Age.

I am currently working towards my alternative teacher’s certification for the state of Texas through Texas Teachers ACP. I expect to be certified as a grade 4-8 generalist by the end of summer 2014 but will continue to work towards upper level elective certifications including history, language arts, and German.

I'm a college student at UT Austin studying Philosophy and Biomedical Engineering. I've tutored students from 2nd grade to college in subjects ranging from basic math to E & M Physics, but most of my experience is in SAT and ACT prep. I have pride in my ability to assess where students are and what they need to achieve their goals, and hope to work with many more students through Varsity.

I am a believer in the active learning model of education. Students can memorize as much as they wish, but learning requires that teachers find some way of allowing the student to apply what they have learned. In some subjects this is easier to achieve than in others, but in any interaction with a student, I try to make sure that the learning is as engaging and active as possible.
