How can a Writing tutor help you?

There are four different types of writing styles: expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative. Each of these four styles are unique and have their own distinctive way of approaching the readers and audience. Expository writing is meant to explain; descriptive writing is meant to describe; persuasive writing is meant to convince, and narrative writing is meant to tell a story. Like many people, you may be better in one style of writing than in another. If you do struggle in one or more styles of writing, you may want to consider contacting an individualized writing tutoring in Austin who might help you excel in your high school or college writing course.

To be a good writer, you must understand what goes into writing a good piece. Great spelling and punctuation is a must. However, a good writer also understands that active voice, introductions and conclusions, sequencing, and style also play a large part in whether or not a written piece is satisfactory or lacking. If you struggle understanding basic writing skills in any class you take that requires writing, call Varsity Tutors today to find writing tutors in Austin to potentially help you do well in the course.

Writing Tutoring review by Karen in Austin, TX
The student and I went over the essay that she had revised, and a new one that she had written (she did a good job with both). We also talked about my assignment to read news articles, and I've asked her to continue reading them and looking up the words that she doesn't understand. She is to write an essay (of her choice, from the list that she has), and to look up more news articles and words that she doesn't already know.

Writing Tutoring review by Neil in Austin, TX
Today the student worked on outlining and pre-writing his forum post for this week on the novel Blood Meridian. He chose his topic, which encompassed three separate discussions -- how the characters behaved, how the characters were portrayed by the author, either in compliment or in contrast to other characters, and finally what sort of rhetorical move the author is making in showing these contrasts among characters. He was able to accomplish a complete outline of the entire forum post. This left him ready to write his final draft and incorporate his evidence. As usual he was an attentive and engaged student, and I look forward to working with him again.

Writing Tutoring review by Kiel in Austin, TX
I introduced a new writing text rich in lessons on structure and organization. After perusing through its contents, the student asked to look at sample literary analysis passages and discuss their formatting and general writing characteristics. He mentioned that the summative assessment for his current unit could include a literary analysis and wanted to be ready if writing one. Furthermore, the student contrasted this form of writing and its structure to that of his persuasive essay's format. I gave the student a copy of the endorsed textbook for use in school and later lessons.
