Recent Gwinnett County Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Caleb in Gwinnett County, GA
The student overall was having a great day. Today we went over study prep for her exam tomorrow and covered graphing, slope, range and domain, fractions, and a couple of other math problems. I had her go through the entire practice review at the end of the chapter. She corrected a few of the problems as soon as I started to go over it. She felt much better about the material since last week, required less cueing on her homework. There were a few questions that she got wrong that were pretty tough and I had to review with her. No strategies were covered, only concepts related to the work. She is getting much better at graphing and slope intercepts. I also went with her and looked ahead for the future week and saw what was coming up just to see how well she understood the future material.

Today we saw each one of the problems the student had in the test and added some others in order to master operations such as diamond diagrams, rules of signs and algebraic simplification. The student solved each and every problem I wrote for him. We reviewed his mistakes and corrected them hoping for him to understand which operation to use according to the problem. We expect a good grade on his test for tomorrow.

Moreover, we reviewed her past quizzes, which included questions on building functions that satisfy a given set of requirements and taking the first and second derivative of different functions.

Tutoring review by Eric in Gwinnett County, GA
Today's session with this student went really well. We spent our time working on calculus in preparation for her upcoming exams. It was our first time working on math and she had forgotten a lot of material from the last couple of years. We spent most of our time reviewing the material and I think that it made a big difference. Her biggest struggle so far is forgetting what she has already learned. I showed her a lot of simple, effective ways of remembering the earlier material and I think it will make a big difference. I asked her to work extra problems from her book.
