During this session, we worked on a homework worksheet packet. It contained questions with different mathematical concepts, such as finding the percent of a number and probability. She did a good job with this worksheet and we finished it with no problems. Then we worked in a workbook and talked about prime and composite numbers and factors and finding powers and square roots. She understood all of this very well and did a very good job.

Tutoring review by Allysa in O'Fallon, IL
The student and I completed her homework covering division. One side of the worksheet had basic division facts that were missing the divisor or the dividend. The other side of the worksheet had division circles with the quotient in the middle. The inner circles were the divisors and the outer circles were the dividends. She had to fill in the missing divisors or dividends. We then completed a lesson about different ways to add numbers online. We then took the quiz that followed and she received a 5/5.

Today we went over some homework problems. We worked on the derivative of sin x and cos x to prove the derivatives of the other 4 functions (tan x, csc x, sec x, and cot x). We also practiced using the product rule and quotient rule of taking derivatives of the functions with polynomials and trig functions, and we practiced finding tangent and normal lines of a function that consists of the product of a trig and a polynomial function. The student improved his understanding a lot during this lesson.

Tutoring review by Darren in O'Fallon, IL
We focused almost all of our session today on grammar issues (we took one short math break because I gave him a problem--a word problem about finding the surface area of a walkway surrounding a pool--for him to do while I wrote some sentences for him to complete). We started with an essay the student had written for history and went through sentence by sentence. Then, we honed in on some of the mistakes that he had made, working on affect/effect, noun-verb agreement with composite singulars, gerunds, and dependent clauses.
