I graduated from Elmhurst College in May of 2013 with majors in English, Spanish, and Philosophy. While at Elmhurst, I was the Editor-in-Chief of my school newspaper, and developed my tutoring style and ability by working with fledgling writers on improving their craft. I believe that the source of all good writing stems from clear, critical thought, and this is what I try to nurture in my students. Having received numerous accolades from the Illinois College Press Association, both as a writer and an editor, I have a proven track record of what works.I have traveled extensively throughout my college career, specifically to several Spanish speaking countries, the most recent once being Cuba. I not only have mechanical skill with Spanish, I have a profound love for Spanish and Latin American culture. As a result I have an unyielding passion and excitement for the language. In the Fall semester of my senior year, I studied abroad at Oxford University. In what as the most challenging experience of my college career, I learned the true value of tutorship. With each class being a one-on-one tutorial, I was amazed at what I could accomplish, and amazed at the potential that can be awakened with the right guide. This unique perspective inspired me to try awaken that potential within others. In my spare time, I enjoy learning new things. Currently, I am teaching myself how to program computers. I am a voracious reader, of non-fiction and fiction alike. Nothing gives me greater pleasure then playing my acoustic guitar outside on a sunny day.

I am a board certified chiropractic physician that has a passion for learning and teaching. I have a Bachelors degree in Biology from Rockhurst University that includes experience in science classes such as biology, physiology, anatomy, microbiology, botany, and many others. I love to help people learn and master their material, so they truly understand and can apply the information and not just recite the information back on an exam.

I am a graduate of Lindenwood University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a minor in Anthropology and Religion and my Master of Arts in Creative Writing. In between earning my degrees I was a tour actor/director for Missoula Children's Theatre, a camp director for a year round resident camp, and spent some time living overseas in Ireland and England.I have extensive experience working with students of all ages, most recently teaching college freshman and returning learners at a local community college in Saint Louis. While I am happy to tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Literature, Writing, Critical Thinking, and Study Skills and Organization. I believe in keeping students motivated by finding ways to make the subject relatable on a personal level. Using technology, pop culture, and up to date information are just some of the ways I help students gain confidence in the subjects they are studying. When not teaching or tutoring, I am dividing my time reading, writing, running, doing yoga, and taking the occasional nap.

Teaching has always come naturally to me and seems to have always been a part of my life in some capacity or another my sister once joked that because I would tell her about what I learned in class at school with so much detail and enthusiasm, she ended up knowing the entire curriculum for her middle school science classes before she ever took them! I continued to volunteer tutor through high school, did two years of paid tutoring while studying English Literature as an undergrad at Harvard College, and then spent a year in Japan teaching English as a second language to students ranging in age from 4 to 80 years old (!).One of the greatest joys of tutoring in particular, for me, is the ways in which I can personalize the lessons in order to help a student access the material on their own terms, in ways that make sense to them. I'm a strong believer in the idea that if you can find ways to relate to a subject and make it meaningful to you, working hard to get better at it can be a fulfilling, even fun undertaking, rather than a chore. One of the reasons I love tutoring English in particular is that while so many students struggle with the idea of organizing their thoughts on paper, or unpacking someone else's (sometimes very complicated!) word choices, if they have proper support, they can eventually come to think of written language as another medium for communicating to, and being heard by, the world around them. When not thinking about language, essays, and vocab words, I can usually be found reading, listening to showtunes, practicing my Persian and Japanese, and singing.I mostly tutor English, essay-writing, and standardized test prep, but let me know if there are other areas in the humanities you would like to work on!

I recently gained my B.A. in Political Science and B.S. in Linguistics with a minor in Spanish from Truman State University. During my time in school I had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain. It was the experience of a lifetime and gave me a variety of skills that I think help me to tutor students not only in Spanish, but other subjects as well. Why? Because I have firsthand experience with not only what its like to be surrounded by people who do not speak your language, but the variety of discomforts that entails. The initial discomfort of being abroad is not that different from the discomfort of knowing you need help with a subject. I know. I have been there. I absolutely love learning languages and have spent countless hours pouring over textbooks and grammars (with guitar breaks in between) in order to learn as much about as many of them as I can. But Id be lying if I stated that I had never struggled. For me, the only thing worse than not understanding something is having to ask for help. As a tutor, I try to keep that in mind in order to allow students to realize their full potential. My job is not simply to teach. My job is to provide students with the tools and confidence necessary to teach themselves, and have fun doing it!

I obtained my bachelor's degree from Lindenwood University in elementary education. I have a TESOL certificate as well as three years of preschool training. I taught in the public school system and am currently an informal educator for a zoo! The ages of students I've worked with ranges from pre-K through adult ages. Content worked on with students includes: ELA, reaching reading goals, pre-K-6th grade math, science, social studies, English language learning. I truly believe that each human learns at their own pace and in their own unique way. It's important for an educator to meet those needs to set the learner up for success. "Always remember that your present situation is not your final destination" -Zig Ziglar I strive to be encouraging and motivating with each learner I get to work with.

I studied for my undergraduate degrees at Missouri State University, receiving simultaneous Bachelor of Arts degrees in German and Latin. I furthered my education studying Classics at the University of Kansas, receiving another Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and finally receiving my Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, both from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. As an undergraduate, I started tutoring with a program at my university. I worked with students from 18 - 50 in subjects such as Latin, Religious Studies, English Language Arts, and Basic Computer training. During my teacher training and after graduation, I taught students from 6th - 12th grades Latin, Etymology and German. I have taught English to non-native English speakers from 4 - 18 years old, in both Kansas City, MO and Seoul, South Korea.Though I tutor in myriad subjects, I am most passionate about Latin, English, and Social Studies. I am fascinated by how language, literature and culture are interwoven and how they affect those around them. I get really excited about learning/re-discovering things and subsequently about teaching those things to my students. I believe that education is the best way to expand not only your mind, but to improve your situation and quality of life. When I'm not teaching, I love to read, make jewelry, travel, watch Doctor Who and play with my cat, Oedipus. I am also just starting to train for 5Ks, but I am not the biggest fan of running.
