Niverville, New York, is a census-designated place and semi-rural hamlet in the northern part of Columbia County. The Dutch first settled the area that would become Niverville in 1665, and Lauren Van Alen built its first house in 1707. The community is named after John Niver and John M. Niver, who were cousins who emigrated from Germany during the early 19th century. These cousins built the area's first gristmill for rye flour, and they eventually built a mansion in the community.

Many students in Niverville attend Ichabod Crane Senior High School, which is administered by the Kinderhook Central School District. Niverville is also only a 20-minute commute from Albany, making attending one of the city's colleges or universities very convenient. In today's session, the student and I focused mostly on her English assignment. She will finish on her own. I told her that she could email me a copy of her paragraph to review before submitting it to her teacher.

Tutoring review by Carin in Niverville, NY
The student and I covered the topics of quadratic formulas and equations and how to find the number of solutions using the discriminant. Once he was reminded of the process, he was able to complete most of the problems with no help. We then moved on to his word problems. The biggest challenge was determining how to apply the information given to the quadratic formula. I feel the student understands these topics fairly well, and he should have no problem when tested on them.

Today we worked on the multiple worksheets based on congruence of triangles and reviewed the concepts all over again. The student is showing a better understanding of the concepts now and he did much better on the quiz assignment I gave him after the work.

Tutoring review by Gerard in Niverville, NY
The student and I met for our first session today, and we started by getting to know each other. I talked to hear about her goals for the GRE and we devised a study plan that will help her prepare for her upcoming exam in October. We first went through what types of questions she would expect to see on the GRE as she has not done any prep material so far. We worked through some sample quantitative reasoning problems, focusing on the quantitative comparison question type. We talked about some general strategies for these types of problems, and also discussed some of the content involved with the specific questions. We then started our review of content she will need to know for the GRE focusing on the rules of exponents. I will send her some practice problems to work on for our next session which will review the material we worked on.
