Tutoring review by Kerry in Altamont, NY
We reviewed the semester's concepts to prepare for the midterm. I think it would be extremely helpful for the student if he became more organized. When we started the session he was unaware that he had been given a review that day in class.

I went over the section on systems of linear inequalities and showed the student how to solve them. We reviewed a sheet (I had made a hard copy) of unit 8, and then he proceeded to take his unit 8 test - he got 100. We will review for his semester test next week, and he will, hopefully, have time to take it.

Tutoring review by Robert in Altamont, NY
I helped the student work through material where he dealt with systems of equations using elimination or substitution, solving proportions, and solving complex equations. Overall, he understands how to solve all of these types of problems, but his issue is understanding what the question is asking him to do and/or what method is best to get the answer he needs. I've began intervening by having him articulate how he thinks he should begin a problem and asking him for his reasoning behind it. I then correct and reteach when necessary.

Today the student and I worked on problems involving synthetic division to find factors. We also talked about how to know whether a function has real zeros. It was a solid session today, and I encouraged her to continue practicing the synthetic division procedures.
