We looked at current grades and discussed each class, and then focused on the organization of binders for each class. We then used the rest of the time to work on questions over Romeo and Juliet for her English class.

Today we covered material that the student is currently going over in class that might help him not only in his normal coursework, but also the standardized state test that is coming up in a few weeks. We also went over a few tips about how to study for his math class. We discussed him reviewing his class notes daily for 5-10 minutes, so he stays fresh on the material.

Today the student and I covered a review of the second half of chapter 5. We got through sections 5-5 through 5-9. Overall the student did well. Since her exam is coming up, what I intend to do during our next review session is try to focus on the material in her review packet provided by her teacher that way I can make sure she understands concepts that will be high yield on the final exam.

Tutoring review by Matthew in Mattydale, NY
The student finished this week strong. Our six sessions took us through chapter 4 of the textbook that she will use this year for algebra 2. On Wednesday and Thursday we rounded out our study of quadratic equations. Most challengingly, she derived the quadratic formula from completing the square of a quadratic function in standard form. That enabled her to solve problems of this nature with three techniques (factoring, completing the square, quadratic formula). She became comfortable with complex numbers (imaginary numbers), and she willingly set to work on each question that I asked her to tackle. It was a pleasure to work with her; I am confident that she has positioned herself well at the start of her sophomore year; and, I wish her all the best in her academics.

Tutoring review by Haley in Mattydale, NY
During yesterday's session, the student and I reviewed all of his homework assignments. We began with spelling, and we developed a few techniques for how to remember the spelling of the trickier ones, such as "reservoir." We then moved on to studying for his French test that was scheduled for the next day. I quizzed him on vocabulary words and on reflexive verbs, both of which he performed very well on. We came up with a few specific questions for him to ask his French teacher the next morning when he attended the extra study session. We concluded the session by working on his next draft of his high school essay. He worked on strengthening his final paragraphs by adding examples in his writing and developed the next draft for him to submit to his teacher. Before wrapping up the session, we reviewed French reflexive verbs one more time. He did a great job during this session and demonstrated hard work and focus. Nice job!

Tutoring review by Daniel in Mattydale, NY
We went over the rational zero polynomial theorem and factoring polynomials. In the future weeks I think we should do 1 representative problem from each topic before doing many problems in the same area. Today we did 9-10 problems that were exactly the same and then almost ran out of time before getting to a new topic in the assignment.
