Tutoring review by Candelario in McConnellsville, NY
Today we covered more topics from basic statistics. She had taken an exam this week, so we went over the problems she got incorrect. I covered additional examples related to those problems to be sure that she understood the concepts. I also showed her that a proper understanding of a certain concept could help reduce the actual calculations. We also practiced dividing numbers using long division. I gave her some examples where the answer was a whole number and some where the answer had a decimal value. I emphasized that she should practice her multiplication tables from 1 x 1 = 1 up to 12 x 12 = 144 so that she can compute her answers faster and focus on more difficult problems.

The student and I began looking at the unit circle as it pertains to trigonometric properties. The student shows an aptitude for understanding the abstract reasoning behind using the unit circle, and how sine and cosine can be calculated using a triangle imposed upon the circle. After performing a few calculations together, I asked the student to explain the process to me as if I were the student, which he did very well, demonstrating a knowledge of the key steps and ideas to solving sine and cosine.

Today we did a review of exponents and rules. We focused on not making the mistake of multiplying base and exponent rather than taking the base to the power of the exponent. We also did a refresher on radicals. We worked some with exponential functions, growth, and decay. The student understands the equations and how to graph them.

Tonight, the student and I worked on dividing decimals by whole numbers. She did very well with it. Within that concept, we worked on word problems involving money, averages, and very long division. At the end, after she finished her homework, she worked on some brain teasers I had brought, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
