Tutoring review by Andrew in Jordan, NY
During this session, we continued to review derivatives. We started by covering the chain rule with polynomials raised to an exponent, and then moved on to the uses of derivatives by comparing average rate of change with instantaneous rate of change. The end of the session was spent preparing for upcoming classes, finding the derivatives of trig functions and solving problems by combining rules such as the product rule and chain rule. The student did very well with all of the material, and showed me that she is currently maintaining an A average.

Today, we reviewed the same material as last time, making sure it was cemented in the student's memory. We made sure that she wrote equations for all of her steps and that she used her postulates. She is doing well in her schoolwork.

Tutoring review by Janice in Jordan, NY
This session was spent reviewing material the student has learned in Chapter 4 for a quiz on Wednesday. Her father forwarded me the papers to review. I discussed and showed her more than one method to solve problems on 4.2. I had her practice the skill after the explanation. We then reviewed transformations, reflections and rotations. I made notes on index cards for her to review before the quiz. We then reviewed and practiced those skills. Lastly, the quiz will be on section 4.4 which she has not been taught yet. I explained to her the concept briefly and discussed how to find the slope from 2 points. She needs to build her confidence. She sometimes makes avoidable mistakes, then the problem is incorrect. I tried to build up her confidence during the session. They lent me a copy of the algebra book for me to use as a reference.

The student and I have continued to work on similar figures as well as circumference of circles. She says that she understands the material but sometimes is not sure on the initial steps of getting started. We will continue to work towards knowing right away what to do.
