We covered the natural logarithm and the continuous growth exponential e. The student was struggling with how to eliminate e or ln from an equation. I showed him the relationship between the two and left him extra problems from the textbook.

The student's class is starting to cover hypothesis testing and we covered some of the introductory basics such as the null and alternative hypotheses, 1-tailed and 2-tailed tests, and p-values. He seemed to have a pretty good grasp of the null and alternative hypotheses but not as clear on the difference between 1- and 2-tailed tests, and what p-values represent. We went through a series or problems that I was able to use to explain and demonstrate those concepts as applied in those problems. He was able to pick it up quite quickly and easily. He's a very intelligent student and learns things without much delay once I am able to give an explanation and/or demonstration. I did give him some hints on what to look for in determining whether a test is 1-tailed or 2-tailed, as well as how to know, based on a p-value, whether a test result is statistically significant.

Tutoring review by Sophia in Canfield, OH
During my session with the students, we worked on reviewing material for their upcoming social studies exams. One of the students and I went over her review sheet for her India/South Asia exam, while the other student and I went over her review sheet for her Modern India exam, and organized ideas for her essay question on Gandhi. Both students had trouble finding the relevant information in their notes to fill in the review sheets. Both students' attitudes were very positive about the material we reviewed. For the first student, I suggested that she look through her notes and the review book to fill in the rest of the review sheet on her own. For the other student, to help her prepare for her essay section on her exam, I suggested that she write the essay out completely while she studies, so that she will be able to write the essay effortlessly during the exam.

Tutoring review by Hannah in Canfield, OH
Today we reviewed a worksheet on integrals. Topics on the worksheet included both definite and indefinite integrals as well as Riemann sums and calculation of integrals from graphs. It does take her a little bit longer to complete these problems, but she will definitely master the concepts with a little more practice. We will continue to work on these problems in our future session, which will take place as needed.

Tutoring review by Tessa in Canfield, OH
It has been a pleasure working with the student. Today in school, his class did assessment testing and watched a movie. He really surprised me by telling me how the movie they watched had foreshadowing. It was amazing to see the way he recalled our lesson objectives. We recapped the pieces we have read. He did a wonderful job of recalling the stories, the characters, and the main message of each. We ended with ACT prep testing today. He shows great potential. As the material is intended for a more advanced grade level, I did guide him; however, he was able to surmise the correct answers on his own accord. He scored a 95% in both reading comprehension and language mechanics. He also was able to answer 9 out of 10 math questions correctly, with a little more guidance. He is a highly intelligent young man. So long as he remembers to take his time on a test, he should continue to improve throughout his academic career. Thank you for choosing me to work with him.
