Today we covered the four different Reporting Categories of 6th Grade Math - Number Sense, Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Financial Literacy. I strongly believe that math students should understand where the problem is coming from. It will help them tackle the problem with a clear view. I gave him an assessment. I wanted to assess his current strengths and deficiencies in order to be a highly effective tutor. After the assessment, we took a look at the current Math concepts. This week they are working on graphs. Therefore, he and I did a brief overview of histograms.
After reviewing his assignments, it is clear that he needs strategies to help him develop full picture views of the problem. Like most students, he rushes through the problem, and does not always catch the important details.
He has a very positive attitude. He knows that he is very smart. However, he also understands that the amount of effort is directly related to his success as a student.
Now, that I know what he needs to be successful, I will introduce those strategies during our next session."
