Tutoring review by Sharnita in Hubbard, OH
At this session, the topic we focused on was properties of exponents: product, zero, quotient, negative, and power. The student was comfortable solving problems with just zero, product and quotient exponents. He had more difficulty with the problems involving negative exponents and power exponents, so we focused on those during our session. We will continue to work on these problems in future sessions as well. The student informed me that his grade has improved to a B in this course.

Tutoring review by Meghan in Hubbard, OH
We worked on simplifying rational expressions. We started by reviewing what is a rational expression. The student was able to explain this in basic terms and I explained it to her using mathematical terms. We started by factoring in general and did a problem from her book. She had some trouble dividing fractions so we went over how to do that. She also had difficulty at the beginning because the examples from class were different from her homework. She was able to talk out what she didn't understand and then was able to see the similarities. We went through her homework and she did well. In general, her biggest problem was not factoring a term completely. She got better at this as we went through more problems.

The student and I began our first session by going over her past ACT scores and the diagnostic test. Then we went over the math section of one of the practice tests that she took previously from the practice manual. For next week's session, I asked her to memorize the necessary mathematical formulas and review her trigonometry work.

Tutoring review by Kacey in Hubbard, OH
During our session this evening we focused on long division and memorizing times tables. The student told me that in his class right now they are focusing on dividing three numbers by two numbers so we did a lot of problems like that with long division. NiHe ck seems very smart, and he knows the process well, but he gets ahead of himself and makes mistakes. But he is also good at realizing where he made the mistake and fixing it quickly. Next we spent a good amount of time working with the multiplication flashcards so that he can memorize all multiplication problems with numbers 1 through 12. This will help him be more efficient when doing larger math problems and is extremely important. I gave him 2 minutes to get through as many flashcards as possible, and he really enjoyed the challenge.
