If you are a parent with a child looking to enroll in a private or magnet school, then Richmond ISEE prep can be very important. The Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) is one of the entrance exams accepted by most independent and primary schools, so the score your child receives on this test could impact whether or not they are admitted to your preferred school. By utilizing prep options through Varsity Tutors, you will provide your child with resources and tips to help them earn their desired score. It is never too early for your child to begin studying for the ISEE. This test will measure their potential for success and ability to perform academically. Your child's ISEE score can be a valuable predictor for schools regarding how well they will perform in a rigorous class environment.

The ISEE is considered a factor by many independent educational institutions prior to admission, and is available for Primary, Lower, Middle, and Upper Levels of schooling. The Primary Level test is given to students entering 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades; the Lower Level is for students entering 5th and 6th grades; the Middle Level is given to students entering 7th and 8th grades; while the Upper Level exam is for students entering 9th grade and up. It is important for your child to develop strong test-taking skills in order to score well. Every level of testing will cover similar subject areas with varying levels of difficulty. Questions will be tailored to and appropriate for the level of the student's education.

What material does Richmond ISEE prep cover?

Every Richmond ISEE prep class is designed to familiarize students with the nature of the test and prepare them for the questions they will need to answer. Students should expect to be given practice exams and weekly assignments, as well as learn helpful test-taking tips and strategies. By enrolling your student in Richmond ISEE prep you unlock immediate access to Varsity Tutors resources. Taking advantage of these educational tools can teach students how to work smarter, build strengths, increase self-confidence, and create general study habits that can be useful for the rest of their life.

The Primary level of ISEE focuses on Reading, Writing, and Math. Both the Reading and Math sections are multiple choice. Students should be able to demonstrate a clear level of comprehension of the written passages presented to them, as well as skills in basic mathematical operations. In the Writing section a picture prompt is provided and each student will be required to write an organized essay with a clear beginning, middle, and end that also shows the students personality and creativity. For 2nd grade students, there is an additional Auditory Comprehension component of the test. In this portion, your student will listen to nonfiction and fictional excerpts. They will then need to answer 6 content related questions in 7 minutes.

The next three levels of the ISEE contain Verbal Reasoning, a Writing section, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Reasoning, and Math Achievement sections. In the Quantitative Reasoning portion of the test, students are given 35 minutes to complete 37 questions, and each student will be assessed in mathematical skills related to problem-solving and complex thinking. The Math Achievement section is where mathematical operations are tested extensively. Students are required to answer 47 questions in 40 minutes focusing on mathematical concepts like data analysis, algebra, geometry, and the use of coordinate grids to solve equations. In the Verbal Reasoning section students are given 40 questions and 20 minutes. Focus on synonym usage, vocabulary, identifying parts of speech, and a familiarity with Latin and Greek prefixes and suffixes will be important during this portion of the exam. The Reading Comprehension segment of the exam gives students 35 minutes to answer 35 questions about a given passage. Students should be able to locate the author's main and supporting ideas, as well as be able to identify the author's intent. Here, your student will need to be able to infer, compare, and contrast details from the information given. An Essay section is also included in the Lower, Middle and Upper Levels of the ISEE. This portion requires each student to demonstrate their ability to organize and present a grammatically accurate response that also incorporates relevant details that can expand their argument.

What type of ISEE prep is available for my student?

Varsity Tutors is a service capable of matching your child with talented tutors and enrolling them in online course instructors. If your goal is to find a Richmond ISEE tutor that can help your child increase their ability in a particular topic, you have come to the right place. Specialized attention can often be difficult to receive because teachers have an entire classroom demanding their attention. Their private tutor will be able to assess desired goals and work with your child at a comfortable speed while helping them develop a study plan. This format lets the tutor have the chance to detail your child's pros and cons and create a customized study plan that can be adapted as they progress through the exam materials.

Your child can also be enrolled in an online Richmond ISEE prep course. Once enrolled in an online course, they will attend two or four-week long sessions. Since new classes are beginning every week, they are capable of fitting into even the busiest student's schedule. Another advantage to the virtual classroom includes participation as a group with their classmates. Group activities and discussions give your child a sounding board with other students who are seeking the same guidance.
