After that, the tutor can set up a personalized study plan that aims to try to improve your child's knowledge in the subject and fixes up any pesky weak points. Whether your child is having some trouble with negative numbers, estimation and approximation, division, the order of operations, or any other fundamental math concepts, a skilled tutor could break down those concepts so they're far easier to understand. Every tutoring session is completely tailored to your child and caters to their preferred learning style, potentially making it a more efficient way to learn than the classroom format.

Math Tutoring review by Will in Vancouver, WA
We worked on her algebra review. We accomplished around a quarter of it, going over those concepts that she will definitely need to know for the coming year.

Math Tutoring review by Holly in Vancouver, WA
We returned to working on long division and the student increased her confidence in solving the problems. I only assigned one for homework, as she still needs some support when solving. I also assigned her one subtraction problem with borrowing for homework, so that we could make sure she is still practicing that. We will continue to hit on long division over the next week until she is feeling more confident with it. The student completed additional problems on the assessment that covers all of the 3rd grade math standards. We discussed measures of capacity (gallons, quarts, pints, and cups) and their relative sizes. The more real-world experience she has with things like that, the less "theoretical" concepts like that seem. Another area where she needed support was in identifying how to connect dots on a grid to form a line segment. This, however, was simply a vocabulary issue. I explained to her what a line segment was (part of a straight line, identified by its endpoints), and after that, she was able to successfully solve the problem. She needed no support solving a simple problem on elapsed time.

Math Tutoring review by Cheryl in Vancouver, WA
In math today, we reviewed addition and subtraction of mixed fractions; he continued factoring and identifying multiples of numbers. We reworked some homework problems using a "naming strategy" to help him recall the order of the steps in a process. Progress was observed during the session via the results of in-class assignments using our new "naming" strategy and via the interactive program. We will do more review on switching from the various processes when solving different problems (adding/subtracting or multiplying/dividing fractions).

Math Tutoring review by Nana in Vancouver, WA
I covered addition and subtraction of 2/3 digit numbers with student 1 and covered converting of fractions into percentages with Student 2. I then provided practice problems for both students.

Math Tutoring review by Nolan in Vancouver, WA
The student and I worked with sequences and patterns, and there were many problems that required a good amount of mental math. He often tries to "crack" a problem in one big step and gets hung up; I went over strategies with him to break down mental math problems into easier steps. I noticed several of the pattern problems use some of the same concepts that programs did in a coding class I took, and it's helpful to show him parallels between math class and coding.

Math Tutoring review by Sona in Vancouver, WA
The student was really sweet and fun to work with. He started off very shy, but we got to know each other over the session. He reads very well and very quickly. We need to work more on standard form and expanded form. I'd also like to continue bring creativity into our sessions.
