ACT Reading Tutoring review by Jennifer in Vancouver, WA
The student and I covered some strategies for improving her score on the Reading portion of the ACT. By focusing on the questions, not the passage, and answering the questions from easiest to hardest, she can maximize her score as well as avoid time traps and save precious time for the most difficult questions. First, she took a practice test of a single passage to identify her weaknesses and familiarize herself with the process. After, we reviewed basic strategies. We dissected the way the reading section and passages are organized to chose the best reading order and quicken the process of finding answers in the passages. Finally, we covered the types of traps in ACT test questions and how to avoid them. Afterward, she read and answered questions from another passage. However, she chose not to use the strategies we reviewed because she really enjoyed reading the passage. If possible, she should practice taking other tests and applying the techniques from the lesson.

The student did another practice test for math. He scored 44/60 or a 27. We did error analysis on probability, geometric equations, and factoring. Homework is to complete math practice test #3 as well as memorize the 100 math facts and be able to integrate them into the exam when he sees them. We will meet again tomorrow.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Rachel in Vancouver, WA
Today, the student and I focused on his performance in the English section of the ACT. Since he needed help with comma usage and parallel structure, we completed some review questions that particularly targeted those topics. He intends to do more practice on his own, and tomorrow we will work on the reading section of the exam.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Alette in Vancouver, WA
I met with the student to prepare for the upcoming ACT. We started by reviewing the English/ editing section. She did extremely well on this subject so we are hoping to see an increase in score now that she is more familiar with the materials. We then spent the majority of our time on the Reading comprehension. She has a harder time on this subject because of the time constraint. We are working on strategies to increase speed while deducting the correct answers.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Ashley in Vancouver, WA
We went over 2 practice tests (the English and Reading sections) and talked about more strategies for elimination and how to arrive at the correct answers. We went over last minute questions the student had, and we reviewed the two grammar concepts from last week (simplifying sentences and "that" used as a conjunction). The student indicated that he is concerned about finishing the reading section in the allotted time. However, he seems to have a firm grasp on how to properly think about each type of question and arrive at the correct answer. He is going to do one more practice test tomorrow and see how he does. I have confidence that he will do quite well on the exam Saturday!
