How can a Mandarin Chinese tutor help you?

Mandarin Chinese is one of the most complex languages for students who speak English as a first language to learn. The language is different from English in just about every way. Aspects such as vocabulary, grammar, and spelling are different no matter what foreign language you are attempting to learn. But what separates Mandarin Chinese is the writing system. The writing system is character based, which is something that most English speakers are completely unfamiliar with. While the challenges of learning the language are immense, it is worth the frustration. Learning Mandarin Chinese may help you develop valuable skills such as persistence and problem-solving skills. It may also make you more marketable to employers in certain industries. If you are interested in learning Mandarin Chinese, but you are intimidated by how difficult it is, you may want to connect with a private Mandarin Chinese tutor. Varsity Tutors may find you an experienced Mandarin Chinese tutor in Salt Lake City, UT, with expertise and depth of knowledge in the subject who may try to help students at all levels.

A professional Mandarin Chinese tutor in Salt Lake City may create a study plan specifically designed for you. One of the ways a private tutor may try to help you the most is with speaking the language. You may likely get plenty of practice learning vocabulary and grammar in your Mandarin Chinese class. But opportunities to speak the language may be limited. Working with a private tutor resolves this issue because they may give you as much practice as you need. Speaking the language with your tutor may also be more interesting, because you may talk to them conversationally rather than simply reading out of a textbook. You may be able to talk about topics that actually interest you, which may help keep you engaged.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Cameron in Salt Lake City, UT
We continued to review the student's vocabulary words. He had a few characters that he confused, so I gave him mnemonics to help remember them. He has to rewrite the passage for tomorrow in pinyin (twice) and write the characters for each practice word ten times.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Hua in Salt Lake City, UT
We read two Chinese story books (Baobao is Responsible and Baobao Loves Exercise). We learned new words while reading the texts. We went through 50 flashcards. I encouraged them to use Chinese as much as possible during class. I gave them each two sheets to practice writing characters. We watched a video of a famous Aesop fable story "Wolf and Little Goat," and "Fox Divides Meat." Then I asked them questions regarding the story. I asked them several questions after the video to make sure they really comprehended the story.

I focused today's session on review. We reviewed most of materials from the beginning all the way to the last session, including conversation topics on when, where and who. We looked at past tense, present tense and future tense. Then we reviewed everything in the textbook; we went through all the dialog all the way to chapter 7. Today's new vocab words were: thousand, 10 thousand, million, and hundred million; they also learned the phrase "how to say ____ in Chinese?" The homework is to review the big numbers we've learned today and the new phrase, and complete the worksheet on Chapter 7.

To begin we continued preparing for the student's in-class presentation. I had him recite what we prepared, and helped him along the way if needed. He did well overall but had a few more sentences to memorize. I then went over some of the material from the beginning of the semester, reviewing important grammar points and vocabulary. We conversed a little in Mandarin to practice these.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Juemin in Salt Lake City, UT
We proceeded to more time expressions like morning, late morning (different in Chinese), noon, afternoon, and night. I found the student had a hard time understanding those words and it turned out to be a lack of knowledge on time, including time reading. We sidetracked a bit to learn the time common sense and drew a time chart of a day. He was getting better at the end of the class.
