...a tutor, I believe that everyone benefits from encouragement - so many times the barrier to learning is confidence! Students often know more than they realize, and I like to guide the student in the process of discovering their own natural talents. I like to teach using questions and supporting students through active problem solving from the beginning. I recently moved to the Twin Cities from Arizona and I love exploring the outdoors while hiking...

...future possibilities such knowledge offers is a priceless fulfillment for me. With these as my basic reasons for being an educator, it has always given me a tremendous satisfaction each time my explanation makes my students understand a math concept, the light lit up in their heads, and their eyes glow with that radiant confirmation of the knowledge they have newly acquired. I guess that is what all true educators live for judging from my...

This was especially rewarding for me, because this particular community sail program welcomed children of Youthlinks, a part of Broadreach Family and Community Services, aimed at serving underprivileged kids in the area. 10th Grade Tutoring FAQ
Is your student in a sophomore slump? The second year of high school is often written off as the least important because it does not carry the pressure of freshman year, and students are not yet constructing their college applications and taking college entrance exams as they do during their junior and senior years. Despite its perceived unimportance, strong academic performance during the sophomore year of high school is critical for creating a solid academic record to send to colleges. Whether your student needs help getting organized and sticking to an academic schedule or has specific concerns about certain courses, Varsity Tutors can help you and your child to connect with a tutor who can help.
A typical 10th grade course load includes math, science, English, a foreign language, history, and possibly an elective or two. Juggling courses that are constantly increasing in difficulty can be challenging, and it is common for students to find one or two areas of particular concern. A personal tutor can help students identify what makes these courses or course topics difficult and can work with your child to develop an individualized learning plan designed to aid him or her in these areas. We can help connect you with tutors who have a wealth of knowledge and background experience. These gifted and experienced tutors can use teaching methods and learning strategies that work well with your student's preferred learning style to help your student get back on track.
This can be a major benefit because their teachers may not have the time to work with your child on an individual level. A private tutor can give them the kind of individualized attention they may need, and work with them at a pace that works best. Whether your child is struggling with a concept and needs extra time to master it, or is beyond their classmates and wishes to move on to more advanced and complex subject matter, a private tutor can help. If your child is struggling and their class is moving too quickly, they may get frustrated. If your child is too advanced for their class and wants to move faster, they may get bored. Either situation can be detrimental to your child's education.
In addition to helping your student sort out difficult course material, tutoring can also help him or her stay focused and organized throughout the year. By checking in with a tutor regularly, your student can address any issues that arise in homework assignments or tests, learn to develop efficient plans for completing homework and studying, and even sharpen his or her study skills. A big part of academic success comes from developing the right work habits. Varsity Tutors can help you select a tenth grade tutor to help your student cultivate these essential skills.
We know that in addition to schoolwork, tenth graders can be busy with sports, clubs, and other commitments. Skilled and experienced tutors strive to make tutoring a convenient, positive part of your tenth grader's weekly schedule.
Varsity Tutors' live learning platform allows you and your child to meet their private tutor in person or face-to-face online. This gives you and your child more flexibility because it lets you pick the time and place that works best for both of you.
Your tutor creates his or her own schedule, so he or she can meet your student at a convenient time and place each week. By contacting Varsity Tutors, you will be connected with qualified, experienced tutors dedicated to helping your child achieve increased academic success. Recent 10th Grade Tutoring Session Notes
We first did some homework for trapezoid and rhombus areas, which worked into some algebra review that was very helpful. Then, we moved on to trigonometry, at which point the student started to get things fairly well.
The student and I spent an hour this evening online going over his two remaining assignments: a cover letter for his English portfolio and his world history study guide. The student has done an excellent job following the study play we wrote last week.
The student and I worked through some algebra II concepts. We talked about quadratic formulas, factoring review, and then we moved on to a brief intro to physics. We talked about the different acceleration equations, and how they are used to calculate distance, time acceleration etc.
Today the student completed a grammar review. We went over all his answers. He made grammar flash cards and worked on vocabulary definitions from his book. For homework, I asked him to write examples of prep phrases, adverbs, and pronouns.
We reviewed matrices and complex number problems from the student's algebra enrichment course. We also planned out how we wanted to go about studying history.
We will be going over the next chapter in the test prep book as well as going over a new type of essay he will have to write in his class. Additionally, we will go over vocabulary words from the assessment book.
