I am a graduate of the New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I received my self-designed Bachelor of Arts in Play, Performance, and the Creative Process with a focus on theater, music, and philosophy. Since graduation, I have set up camp in Brooklyn, NY where I pursue my creative interests as well as work part time as a stagehand and as a tutor. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, literature, and writing. I have the most fun working with students on their writing because I feel that even the most academic paper is still an opportunity to be creative if even in a small sense. In this way, I get a sense of who my students are as people through their writing. My tutoring approach is playful, yet patient and even-handed. I try my best to create an atmosphere where students are uninhibited and unafraid to take a risk or be wrong because so much of school and life is about learning from mistakes and being ashamed bears no fruit this regard. Personally, I like to spend my free time playing my guitar, cooking, watching TV, or playing the occasional video game.

In 2015, I graduated from Columbia College with a BA in Comedy Writing and Performance. However, I have a long and extensive background in English. I started tutoring all elementary subjects while still in high school. I edited essays and short stories for my peers and some graduates while in college. I also took many writing courses while there. My great grandmother, grandmother, and mother used to be English teachers, so it seems to be in my blood! I have a passion for grammar, as well as performance. I currently work as an instructor at Chicago Performing Arts and as Lead Educator for Right at School. Teaching is so rewarding. I love being able to watch students learn and grow. It is important for me to relate to my students and make learning fun. I don't think people learn when they're intimidated or bored, so finding ways to connect and make the materials interesting are important steps in my process. I encourage questions and creativity. I have done early reading intervention tutoring with K-2 students in public schools. I have also taught science and social science to elementary and middle school. In college, I was a writing tutor for other college students, helping them with their writing in all subjects. I am most passionate about tutoring writing and reading, but would love to teach any elementary or middle school topic as well.I am passionate about tutoring because I love working with students and helping them feel more confident in achieving their academic goals.

I understand that all students learn in different ways; some are more auditory learners, whereas others do best by writing and reading. My process is to determine what kind of learner a pupil is, then impart on them my excitement for the topic, so that they are eager to attain new knowledge. I’m a graduate of Northwestern University, where I studied journalism and international studies (with a focus in Europe and international security), and gained a concentration in gender and sexuality studies. Thanks to journalism, I’ve traveled and lived all over the United States, from New York to Los Angeles to Houston. My biggest passions are English and literature, and I love to instill that passion in others, whether that means helping someone work through writing a difficult essay or prep for the critical reading portions of the SATs. Currently, I am a graduate student at Columbia University, earning my MFA in Nonfiction Writing. I write articles and essays, and I’m working on my first book.I love writing and teaching. As a graduate student, I taught a course in personal essay writing to Columbia University undergraduates. I have also taught SAT prep classes and helped students prepare essays for their college applications.I fully believe that writing and test-taking skills can be learned and that one-on-one instruction is the best way to help a student develop them. My knowledge of the subject matter, good communication skills, and ability to encourage my students make me a great tutor. I also think it’s important to be patient and make the material fun while also being firm.I don’t tell my students what to do; I teach them how to do it. The end goal is always to impart my students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed later on their own.Besides tutoring, I am a writer, editor, and filmmaker.
