Recent Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Sophia in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL
During my session with the students we worked on their upcoming research papers for English class. Student A struggled to figure out what interested her enough to research, while student B struggled in brainstorming ideas of what successful leaders had as common character traits. Both girls had positive attitudes toward the material we worked on and for a research strategy, I suggested the girls watch documentaries or reliable videos on the people of interest they want to use in their research paper. I think the girls are managing their time well for their research projects.

Tutoring review by Nikia in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL
This week, the student and I covered the questions that she got incorrect on her last assessment. The student had the most difficulty with problems involving rational expressions. As a result, we spent the remainder of the session going over practice problems. Her practice for the week involves multiplying, factoring and solving polynomials. She is focused and diligent about asking questions and practicing the skills that give her the most trouble.

Tutoring review by Marjorie in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL
We went over the book homework given. This included recognizing functions based on their equations (polynomials), finding the end limits of a function, factoring polynomials, finding the zeros of complex polynomials in the calculator, and word problems. Word problems were the most difficult, but were easily tackled once all of the information was properly extracted from the text. Study strategies for tests included making practice tests, going over homework more than once without notes, and double checking work while in the test.

Tutoring review by James in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL
We went over numerous problems similar to what was on the student's recent quiz, and she did pretty well. We did some problems on direct variation and finding the slope of a line. We then reviewed how to graph a line when given the slope-intercept form. We then looked ahead to topics that may be covered next, including systems of equations.
