As a current Biological Sciences major at the University of Southern Mississippi, I understand firsthand the challenges students face in their academic pursuits. My experience as a McNair Scholar and Student Ambassador has given me valuable opportunities to support and guide fellow students, reinforcing my commitment to education. My background in scientific research has equipped me with skills that translate powerfully to tutoring. At the USDA Agricultural Research Service, I've worked extensively in both entomology and horticulture, conducting sophisticated laboratory procedures that have sharpened my analytical and problem-solving abilities. This work has taught me the importance of precision, patience, and methodical thinking qualities that are essential in effective tutoring.
I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry, anticipated to complete in December 2025. My research has already gained recognition, including presenting at the Entomology 2024 Conference where I participated in the undergraduate poster competition. While my expertise lies in biological sciences and chemistry, I am passionate about helping students across STEM subjects, particularly in areas where scientific thinking and analytical skills are crucial.
My teaching philosophy centers on building confidence through understanding. I believe that every student has the potential to excel when given the right support and tools. Rather than simply providing answers, I focus on guiding students through the problem-solving process, helping them develop critical thinking skills they can apply independently. Just as I carefully prepare media solutions and conduct precise measurements in the lab, I take a methodical approach to breaking down complex topics for students. My tutoring style is patient, adaptive, and student-centered I believe in meeting students where they are and adjusting my approach based on their individual learning styles and needs.
Outside of academia, I am deeply involved in community engagement through organizations like the Vietnamese Student Association and Latinx Student Association. These experiences have enhanced my cultural awareness and ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds. I've also dedicated time to volunteering at Hope Clinic, which has strengthened my empathy and communication skills. My involvement in the American Medical Student Association reflects my ongoing commitment to both scientific advancement and community service.
I believe my combination of research experience and cultural engagement makes me well-equipped to support students in their academic journey. Whether explaining complex scientific concepts or helping students develop study strategies, I am committed to fostering an environment where learning is both challenging and engaging. My goal is not just to help students master subject matter, but to help them become confident, independent learners who are excited about their academic journey.
