I have a strong interest in the students as individuals and demonstrate high sensitivity to subtle messages from them regarding the way they feel about the material or its presentation, the impact on the students is very positive. Students feel I know who they are and care about them and their learning.
Students need to know why they are learning. Students need to be seen as competent. They want their knowledge and skills acknowledged in the classroom. Students need to be self-directed and experientially involved in their learning and they want learning to be life-centered and applicable.
