I received my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry in 2009 from Illinois College where I was a three sport athlete. After my undergraduate years, I attended Southern Illinois University where I received my Masters of Science in Organic Chemistry in 2011. From there I attended Saint Louis University and completed another Masters of Science in 2013 with my focus being on Nanochemistry and Material Science.
During my education I was actively involved in other students learning from tutoring to actually instructing courses. I have been tutoring since my junior year of undergrad in multiple areas such as Algebra, Physics, but most predominantly Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
My background is mainly in Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry is my favorite subject to tutor and instruct. The knowledge of knowing how to take the main ingredient in acne cream and changing it into aspirin is one example of why organic chemistry is one of the most fascinating subjects to explore.
The way that I tend to explain or teach students is to help see the big picture. Many times students will focus on a list of facts to try and memorize and that can quickly become a daunting task, but if you can understand the big picture then that list of facts will become very very small and you will be better prepared for tests and harder problems in the future.
Aside from Chemistry and learning about the sciences, I enjoy staying active playing multiple sports such as volleyball, basketball, kickboxing and Crossfit. I completely understand the work necessary to balance school and athletics and also the synergistic effect they have on each other.
