Tutoring review by Jan in Warrenton, VA
In this session the student and I went over her plan for her quantitative research. We discussed the theory she is investigating and the scales she will use to measure her variables. The study is based upon qualitative research she completed previously. There were some aspects of the model she is putting forward that are not clear and so we discussed ways to clarify what she is researching and how best to measure the concepts. In the end it became clear the she needs to discuss her model with her adviser before the model can be completed.

Tutoring review by Jorge in Warrenton, VA
The student and I reviewed recent problems on which she has struggled despite getting explanations from her teacher. We discussed a range of problems including graphs of parabolas; since, cosine, and tangent of double angles; solving trigonometric equations, and the unit circle. We made copious notes, which she kept. Since she has a test this Friday, I advised her to ask her teacher about the test's topics so that she and I may cover them this Wednesday. She has made much progress and we will continue to review these topics at our next session.

Tutoring review by Meghan in Warrenton, VA
We began the session with multiplication flash cards. I wanted to assess the student's memorization. She did very well, using mental strategies for figuring out more difficult problems including 12's and 9's. Then we reviewed the division counter exercise and worked the idea of "sets" into standard division problems. We reviewed some division vocabulary (dividend, divisor, quotient) and worked on checking problems with multiplication. The student gets confused about which numbers to use to check with multiplication. We will review that more next week. We also worked through a few two-step word problems. To end, we worked on locating verbs in sentences and writing sentences using present and past tense verbs. The student knows many irregular past tense verbs.

Tonight we went over balancing equations involving polyatomic ions, and then using the balanced equation to determine the net ionic equation. The student did very well with these questions! He has a test on Friday, which will include conversions. I am going to make some practice problems for him to work on by Tuesday.
