Currently, my work as a Correctional Research Associate has provided me with the opportunity to utilize my research skills to enhance the field of correctional management and has sparked my interest and passion for teaching others. I was a teacher for 13.5 years, teaching grades 5-12. I have loved it, but I needed a change of scenery, so I left to pursue another career. However, I feel that I am not finished teaching completely and I hope to have a positive impact on students by tutoring them when they are struggling. I know learning another language is challenging, but it can also be so much fun and can open up so many doors for a student!In my spare time, I love to travel (either long or short trips), read , work out, cook, and spend time with family and friend. I also love getting together with my Spanish-speaking friends to catch up and I get to use my Spanish language skills!

I am a certified secondary mathematics teacher and have taught mathematics for 7 years. I received my degree in Secondary Education and Mathematics from the University of North Alabama. My teaching experience includes 6th-8th grade mathematics, Algebra 1, and Geometry. I've also tutored students in Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. As much as I enjoy mathematics, teaching is my passion. My favorite teaching moments are watching my students have that "a-ha" or "light bulb" moment. As a teacher, I help students develop mathematical understanding, logical reasoning, and communication skills.

I want to help students better grasp and understand subjects and continue to move further in their studies because I do not want a class or two that do not comply with their academic strengths to possibly obstruct their path on the way to fulfilling their dreams. I have worked with students on a personal level as an on-call tutor, in a group setting as part of group of tutors assisting students, and on a professional level serving as their laboratory instructor. The highlight of each of these experiences was seeing the lightbulb switch on in their eyes as they began to grasp the concepts or problems that they wee struggling with. I currently serve as a general biology and general chemistry tutor.I earned by Biology degree while on the pre-veterinarian medicine track at Bridgewater College; I am currently seeking to go to graduate school for Biotechnology, Immunology, or Virology. My favorite subject to tutor currently is chemistry because many students see it as a daunting subject and I take great pride in helping students overcome that mindset and realize that it is a course they can succeed in. Outside of tutoring, I am an avid volleyball player and a track athlete. When I can I play videogames in my spare time or take a day on the city that I am in and see what activities that are available such as: laser tag, movies, arcades, paintball, or lounging at the beach or pool. My philosophy when it comes to teaching is that to understand the bigger picture you have to be able to understand what makes up each section, you have comprehend the little pieces to understand how they all come together. By that sentiment I try to see what the student understands and lead them to being able to fit all the pieces together to understand the problem.
