Work With The Perfect Tutor For You

Every Virginia Beach tutor must meet our high standards for qualifications, pass an interview screening, and submit a background check. From this elite group, a Varsity Tutors director helps pair you with a tutor ready to meet your individual needs – and we stand behind your satisfaction with our money-back guarantee.

Personalized lessons help you learn best in an environment where you're comfortable, on your own schedule, both in-home or online.

How much does a private tutor in Washington DC cost?

There are many factors that contribute to the cost of working with a private tutor in Washington DC. Because Varsity Tutors will find you a professional instructor capable of creating a personalized learning experience for you or your student, the cost of your lessons depends largely on the services required.

For example, if you're studying biology at a school like Woodrow Wilson High and require comprehensive tutoring multiple times during the week, your hourly rate could be different than someone meeting for supplemental lessons twice a month.

One of the biggest advantages of private lessons is receiving the ability to study through a personalized learning program. We are happy to find a mentor for you that can accommodate your learning preferences. This degree of customizability means there isn't a set rate for private lessons. Factors like your choice of one-on-one learning with a personal instructor or group lessons with a private teacher in Washington DC can influence your tutoring fees.

Whether you need personal assistance or you're the parent of a student at a school like Ross Elementary, we can find a professional instructor who can help you reach for your goals. Learn more by calling or emailing Varsity Tutors and speaking with an Educational Director. They will help you create a study regimen aligned with your learning preferences, and then they will give you a quote based on the tutoring services you choose.

How do I find a private tutor in Washington DC?

Varsity Tutors understands how difficult it can be to find a qualified tutor in Washington DC, which is why we're happy to do the work for you. When you're tasked with finding your own mentor, it's your responsibility to verify whether they're knowledgeable in the subject they're teaching and if they have adequate teaching skills.

If this is the first time you've worked with a private tutor, you may not even know where to find available instructors. As a result, you could end up working with an unqualified mentor or you might not find a tutor at all.

When you let us find a Washington DC tutor for you, we take care of all the work for you. You can relax while we look through our network of more than 40,000 educators and find a personal instructor that's a good fit for you.

Unlike other educational services, we won't pair you with just any tutor. We believe that personalization is an important feature of private learning, so we're careful to select a tutor who complements your personality and can accommodate your preferred learning style. Many students find this approach to be more effective than traditional classroom lessons because it allows students to create a study program that factors in their goals, strengths, and weaknesses.

What types of tutoring are offered in Washington DC?

Varsity Tutors will find you a Washington DC tutor for any type of tutoring you're looking for. Are you finishing up a college prep diploma at a school like McKinley Technology High School? We'll find you a private instructor who can help you prepare for the SAT or ACT.

Is your middle school student struggling with their science classes? We can find a group class for them so they can review important concepts with peers and receive detailed help from a private teacher in Washington DC.

With more than 3,000 different subjects and tutoring options represented in our network, we're proud to say that we'll find you a mentor for almost any occasion. Even homeschooled students benefit from working with a tutor in Washington DC. Private instruction provides them with the opportunity to dive deeper into their coursework, while letting them benefit from hands-on assistance from a professional educator.

All individual and group learning sessions take place via our Live Learning Platform. This means you can bring the learning experience to you wherever you are. Our platform includes several features designed to optimize learning, like Learning Assessments and the Learning Lab. These features help to measure performance, showing how students have improved over time. They also make it easy to identify strengths and weaknesses, making them especially useful for parents of homeschooled students. All students have access to these features that can help them determine which areas they should devote more time to learning about.

How qualified are tutors in Washington DC?

Varsity Tutors will find you a qualified tutor in Washington DC, regardless of the subject you're studying. Students at a school like Mann Elementary School will be paired with a tutor just as qualified as people receiving LSAT tutoring lessons.

That's because we have an extensive hiring process that looks at a number of factors, such as teaching experience, creativity, and communication skills. We work hard to ensure that every student is paired with a tutor who's capable of creating a learning experience that's second to none.

Did you know that many prospective tutors don't pass our screening process? Before we'll consider pairing you with an instructor, we first make sure they're able to:

  • Explain difficult concepts in a way that's easy for you to understand
  • Create targeted lessons that incorporate multiple teaching styles
  • Cultivate a learning environment that's engaging and makes students look forward to future lessons
Private lessons aren't meant to be only an extension of classroom learning. They're supposed to provide students with the opportunity to study and learn in a way that works best for them. We believe that a private learning experience plays a significant role in helping students remember important information, and we only work with instructors who are able to draw upon their skill set to create a conducive environment.

You can learn more about the benefits of private lessons by contacting Varsity Tutors and speaking with an Educational Director. We'll help you come up with a personalized study regimen that helps you overcome your challenges and reach for your goals. Reach out today and we will find a skilled Washington DC tutor to help you with your studies.

The Virginia Beach School System

Virginia Beach is part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools system. It is one of the biggest systems in the state by population, serving nearly 70,000 students in about 80 public schools along with several private K-12 academic institutions. Although it is a vacation destination and mostly suburban area, it is the most populous city in the state. The Virginia Beach education system can be challenging for parents to navigate, especially if they have a child who has academic needs that fall outside the norm. Parents of children who are gifted or who struggle in traditional academic settings may find it beneficial to have their child work with an accomplished private tutor.

Varsity Tutors can help Virginia Beach parents connect with personal tutors who have the experience to keep a gifted child engaged in the learning process, or who can help students who are struggling with academic concepts. A professional tutor can also work with students who are on solid academic footing but who could benefit from extra help in preparing for an upcoming Standards of Learning (SOL) test, ACT, or SAT.

The SOL exams are given to students in grades three through eight in the subjects of English and mathematics, and at various stages throughout a child’s high school career. Specific subject areas include English, mathematics, science, social studies, and history. These exams evaluate students' understanding of the subject area and establish the minimum levels needed to verify student mastery.

If you’re wondering how some of the largest schools in Virginia Beach performed on recent assessments, you will find the following chart to be a valuable resource:

Virginia Beach Test Scores

High school can be a difficult transition for any child. A higher level of independence coincides with the more advanced academic material. Unfortunately, many students are unprepared to regulate their own independent study needs. A personal tutor can work with your child to help them create a homework and study routine that can help improve grades across the board. A professional Virginia Beach tutor can also help your child if they are struggling with specific concepts in a subject area.

Are you curious about which Virginia Beach high schools are among the best in the area? We’ve put together the following list to answer your questions.

Virginia Beach High School Rankings

High School Virginia Beach Ranking State Ranking AP Pass Rate

Green Run Collegiate 10 172 N/A

Because of the emphasis placed on testing achievement it, it is essential to consider how well your child's school performs on their examinations. It is also important to take into consideration the amount of personal attention your child receives throughout their academic day.

Even schools with a low student-teacher ratio still have around 15 students per teacher. This means that in each class a teacher must accommodate the learning styles and needs of fifteen different students.

If your child is working with a personal tutor, he or she will receive the undivided attention of their instructor. This allows for more customization in both the type of learning materials provided and the way in which concepts are delivered. For students who are struggling, this individual attention can be invaluable.

Here are how some of the largest schools in Virginia Beach compare in average class size.

Session Summaries by Tutors

Tutoring review by Lauren in Virginia Beach, VA
Today the student and I worked on his final draft. I did a lot of editing and encouraged him to re-write run-on sentences, re-write sentences that were unclear to the reader and correct grammatical and spelling errors. I encouraged him to beef up the amount of sources he used and also to add a paragraph that his teacher liked from his original draft. By the end of our session the paper really stood out as in my opinion, an A paper. Hopefully his hard work will pay off.

The student read from the book, pages 13-48. His fluency is so improved. He does well with new words. If he has trouble pronouncing a new word, he hears the new words from me and knows the word the next time he comes to it. He has pronounced several new words on his own.
