Tutoring review by Jackson in Culpeper, VA
The student has a large homework packet that was due today. She hadn't completed it so we are adding a few extra sessions this week to go over it. Today we continued discussing factoring and introduced the standard form for quadratic equations. Once she got into the groove of things she did very well, she still struggles a bit with retention though. I want to slow us down to make sure that the subject matter sticks, but for the short term we are going to continue to work on this packet.

We went through her lab first. We finished that and then we went through her quizzes. I explained the concept and how she has to calculate different parameters. She understood how to solve them. She is doing well.

Tutoring review by Marilyn in Culpeper, VA
The student had to construct a Facebook page for a famous person. He completed the assignment in about 40 minutes. Then, we switched to math. He really gets this unit (multiplication of fractions and decimals) and he whipped right through the fairly long assignment. I only had to alert him to one error he made in his calculations, otherwise he got them all right the first time.

The student did a practice section and scored around 710. He is showing great improvement since he started: around a 200 point increase. He needs to stay focused and remain consistent. I also assigned him homework based on the topics we have covered so far.

We did more geometry problems, specifically conceptual problems as prep for the student's upcoming test. She understands all of her theories. We will meet again on Monday for a final session before her finals.

Tutoring review by James in Culpeper, VA
We started the session with a quiz covering concepts that we have been reviewing since the beginning of the school year. The student had trouble with converting the decimal to a fraction; the decimal was one that you need to know as a special fraction. Then we reviewed squared numbers and square root numbers. He seemed to understand that concept very well. Finally, we reviewed the introductory quizzes takes at the beginning of the math class. Upon review of the quizzes, it seems that most errors result from rushing. I reminded him that he really needs to take his time during the quizzes and re-check his work. In addition, it is important for him to show his work in order to get full credit.
