Tutoring review by Humberto in Burlington, WI
We covered arclength, trigonometric ratios, the unit circle, and right triangles. The student was needing help to get ready for a test on Thursday, so she just wanted to go over everything covered in the exam. The student was very attentive and hardworking. She listened very well and asked questions. The strategy that I included in this session was to continuously review material, little by little, going back and quizzing herself to check for memory and understanding.

Tutoring review by George in Burlington, WI
Today we covered concepts of probability: definitions of empirical vs random, sample space, event, and independence. We went over class handouts in detail, looked up the "Monty Hall" problem and discussed how it applies to conditional probability. We then spent time on homework problems, drawing Venn diagrams and breaking them into disjoint sets, trying a few different approaches to drive home AND vs OR (sometimes the English is harder than the math). At the end, I took a moment to confirm future availability with the parents.

The student has a chapter test this Friday, so we reviewed some of the chemistry concepts he learned over the past couple weeks. He has shown great improvement. We mainly did practice problems involving isotopes, which he had the most trouble in.

Tutoring review by Kristof-Pierre in Burlington, WI
The student has moved on to another topic. He had some trouble with knowing when to use certain formulas, but as the topic is limited to 2 main formulas, I don't think this will cause much of a problem. We went over his homework assignment pretty quickly and practiced friction problems. I let his family know that if he needs any help, we can have a Wednesday online session.

Tutoring review by Jana in Burlington, WI
We established the structure of our sessions: hellos, review last session's information, what homework/ assignments are due and when, skill/ strategy lesson, and then skill/ strategy application using homework/ assignment. The student was able to remember our goals using the song remix, and what areas we were addressing. I introduced the Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy to improve question comprehension. She was able to learn and use it quickly for her homework due Friday. In terms of paper to technology transition, I spoke with her mom into looking into printing out her readings and typing exercises to increase her words per minute (wpm). We will continue with QAR while problem solving on how we approach assignments/ tasks in working smarter not harder.
