What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that anyone can learn anything, it is just a matter of how. The most important factor about teaching is making sure that the student truly understands the material, no matter what it takes. Different methods work for different people.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session with a student, I would like to get a feeling for his/her learning style. I like to see what the student normally does alone, such as the methods and the thinking process that takes place.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by showing the student how to be a true critical thinker.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Helping a student stay motivated will depend on the student and what his/her personal goals are.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I would first watch what he/she is doing. If there is an error right off the bat, then maybe we can tackle it right there; if not, I would break down the concept piece by piece. We will take it one step at a time to explain the why and how of every nook and cranny.
