If graduate school is part of your future plans, chances are you have already been considering the GRE as your exam of choice. It is the most commonly required admission test for grad school and is accepted by thousands of colleges and universities. With the main purpose of the exam being to test if you have what it takes to be successful in graduate school, it is important to make your best effort.
The GRE is made up of three sections that will test a broad assessment of skills you should have learned throughout your years in school. If you find yourself wondering how to make the most of the study time you have before facing this exam, Spokane GRE preparation can help. Regardless of where you are in your review, or if you are simply looking for a place to start, a prep course or private tutor can be the right path for you as you work toward reaching for your top potential. Varsity Tutors can help get you enrolled in the prep option that fits into your busy schedule and works best for you.
What would Spokane GRE prep help me to review?
The three sections of the GRE include Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The entire exam will take just under four hours to complete. There may also be an Experimental Section, which will consist of hidden unscored questions within the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning, or a Research section, which comes at the end of the test and is optional. The Experimental and Research Sections are used to test questions for possible use on future exams. Let's take a closer look into each of the sections presented on the GRE.
The exam will begin with the Analytical Writing section, in which you will be given two tasks with 30 minutes allowed per task. Your two tasks will be to analyze an issue and then analyze an argument. You will want to asses the directions, plan and write your response, and allow yourself enough time to check for errors. You will be evaluated on your ability to clearly articulate complex concepts, support your ideas with reasons and examples, and writing a coherent and focused essay with a strong grasp of written English.
In the Verbal Reasoning section, you will be allowed 60 minutes to answer 40 passage-based questions. These questions will be broken down into two sections of 20 problems each. The questions will be a combination of reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence. The questions in this section will test your understanding of context meaning, passage evaluation, text analysis, passage summary, and many others.
You will have just over an hour to complete the 40 questions of the Quantitative Reasoning section, which is also broken down into two 20-question parts. This section will assess your knowledge of mathematical concepts. The subjects covered include algebra, arithmetic, data analysis, and geometry. Your questions could be in the form of quantitative comparison, numeric entry, or multiple-choice, with some requiring more than one answer.
How do I know which Spokane GRE prep is the right fit for me?
Varsity Tutors can connect you with prep courses or private tutoring, both of which are comprehensive and effective types of review for the GRE. They each hold their own unique benefits and you may even find that a combination of both is the best fit for your needs. Whichever you choose, you can look forward to a more efficient review than you may be able to get on your own.
If you are a student that thrives in a collaborative study session, then a Spokane GRE prep course may be the best option for you. These fully interactive online sessions are run the same as any classroom-based course. This gives you the benefit of studying a well-rounded, set curriculum with a highly qualified instructor in a familiar setting that allows you to engage with your peers. New course sessions begin weekly and you have the option to choose either a two- or four-week session, so you can be sure to find one to fit into your busy schedule.
The interactive group environment of a Spokane GRE prep class gives you the opportunity to gain insight into new study skills from other students while you participate in group activities and discussions. If you need more clarification on any particular section or concept, you have the opportunity to request additional one-on-one time with your instructor.
If a personalized session that is free from other distractions is more appealing to you, then a Spokane GRE tutor might be the right choice. Working with a private tutor gives you the opportunity to learn at your own speed and take the time to focus on more specific ideas or sections that may be more of a challenge for you. You are also able to focus solely on your goals.
When you are working one-on-one with a tutor, it allows the instructor the ability to get to know your challenges and strengths. This can help them to build a customized lesson that will work with your learning preferences in mind. Whether you need some more guidance in the Quantitative Reasoning section, or you would like some more insight on how to improve your time management for the exam, you will be able to take the time you need to fully understand any areas you would like better explained.

My teaching philosophy revolves around helping students gain the confidence that they need to master new material. Students thrive when they recognize that they are capable of learning. Listening to student's own concerns and ideas, and helping students talk through problem areas, can unlock the cognitive blocks that inhibit learning.

...social justice, novel mathematics education, and increasing diversity in STEM majors and careers. Currently, I am working on a thesis in discrete geometry and combinatorics, as well as doing research for UCSF where I design machine vision software. I am well positioned to motivate and justify nearly every aspect of math education as being crucial for a future career in science, engineering or education. I bring this emphasis on real world relevance every time...... The philosophy that I bring to every class and tutoring session is that it is going to be a period of high intensity training. However I assume that for the student, it is only the beginning of their training, and that for every hour spent in class in a tutoring session with me, at least one hour will be spent in self-study to completely master the topic. Together we lay the groundwork and the pace for that study. Tutoring is not be an extension of lecture, but a training session where I expect a high level of student effort, attention and creativity. My method is to quickly develop a casual but engaging rapport with the student so that we feel comfortable making mistakes in front of each other and are able to collaborate on a learning method rather than drilling problems. The aim is twofold: to help students realize the level of commitment, work, and intellectual awareness required to really master subjects, as well as to instill confidence that they are capable of doing so.
