If you're an undergraduate student or a professional hoping to apply to a graduate program or school such as Syracuse University Graduate School, Varsity Tutors would be happy to connect you to excellent Syracuse GRE prep options. The GRE is a standardized exam used for graduate admissions and is accepted by thousands of colleges and universities. The GRE test takes about three hours and 45 minutes to complete and is one of the first obstacles prospective graduate and business school applicants will face when attempting to pursue a Masters, MBA, or Doctoral degree. The GRE was designed to assess the skills you'll need to succeed in a demanding graduate program. It will measure your Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing skills. With so much riding on this critical exam, you will want to use every resource available to put your best foot forward. Enrolling in a Syracuse GRE prep class or working with a private instructor can help you work towards your academic goals.
What can a Syracuse GRE prep class cover?
The GRE is split into three distinct sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The entire test takes a little under four hours to complete. Each section measures a variety of skills you have been expected to have developed over a long period of time. Let's take a closer look at the skills necessary to do well in each section and how a prep course could help you prepare.
The Analytical Writing section has two separately timed 30-minute tasks. You'll be required to analyze an issue and an argument. This section measures your ability to support ideas with relevant evidence and examine claims and accompanying reasons and examples. You'll need to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively. This is your opportunity to show your command of proper written English while maintaining a focused and coherent discussion. Brushing up on these skills with an expert instructor can help you gain confidence in your writing abilities.
The next section is the Verbal Reasoning section. This part of the exam is split into two 30-minute sections, each containing 20 questions. The question types found in this part of the GRE are reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence. A prep class can help you practice your skill in interpreting meaning from context or identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a given position. You'll also want to brush up on your ability to come to a conclusion from partial information and review how to summarize a passage.
The next section is the Quantitative Reasoning section, which is split into two 35-minute sections. Each of the sections consists of 20 questions that measure your ability to interpret and analyze quantitative information. This section analyzes your basic math skills and your ability to use logical reasoning and problem-solving skills to solve issues. You will want to take advantage of guided practice in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis during your GRE prep review. You will be provided with either an on-screen calculator or a physical calculator depending on whether you are taking the computer or paper test.
Whether you are hoping to focus on only one of the sections or would like a more comprehensive review, Varsity Tutors can help you with guided practice opportunities under expert instruction and help you gain confidence in your ability to do well on the GRE.
What are the benefits of the different types of Syracuse GRE prep?
Varsity Tutors is proud to provide a connection to two excellent GRE prep options. The options available when you use Varsity Tutors are an online interactive GRE prep class or a private GRE instructor. Either option is an excellent resource when preparing for the GRE but each comes with a different set of benefits and advantages. Let's take a look at how each option can benefit you during your GRE review.
When you choose to take a Syracuse GRE prep course, you gain access to an interactive, online platform in which you can speak to, hear, and see your teacher as if he or she is sitting at the table with you. You'll be able to work on group activities, engage in group discussions, and ask questions from your instructor directly if you are having an issue with the skills being reviewed. This is an excellent option for students who prefer a structured and social environment similar to that of a traditional classroom. Working in this kind of interactive and collaborative environment has been shown to make learning easier and more enjoyable.
If you prefer a more personalized learning approach, you may want to sign up for one-on-one instruction from a private Syracuse GRE tutor. With this option, you will have the opportunity to access customized lesson plans that are based on your exact learning needs. You can skip over areas that you have already mastered and focus on reviewing the skills in which you need improvement. Your private instructor can monitor your progress and adjust lesson plans as needed. This option also will provide you with the flexibility to create your own schedule and fit your review sessions into your busy agenda.
Some students may wish to take advantage of both options, which can help give you the best of both worlds. No matter which option you choose, Varsity Tutors will help you get connected to the right kind of GRE prep to suit your exact scheduling and academic needs.

I love working with every type of student to help them reach their goals. As an English Ph.D. student, literature remains at the center of my educational journey. Reading and the skills that come with it--comprehension, analysis, critical thinking, empathy--are of utmost importance. I work hard to balance between challenging and encouraging my students. ...with students to perfect their writing. As an online student, I am very well acquainted with using technology in order to learn. I have been able to observe how teachers utilize technological applications and software to personalize instructional strategies in order to fit their students' educational needs. I look forward to using digital tools to present information in different ways so that I may demonstrate material clearly and effectively for all students.... My philosophy as a teacher and tutor is to facilitate lifelong learning skills. I am a firm believer in the notion that half of the battle of gaining an education is knowing how to learn. Not everyone is able to study the same way, so once you know what works best for you and use those skills, you can learn anything!
