I have recently completed my 25th year in education, with experience in teaching and intervention from kindergarten to grade 6 in addition to graduate study in curriculum design and educational leadership. After exploring different opportunities, including administration, curriculum design, and curriculum coaching, I have rediscovered my love for teaching and interaction with students. I struggled with mathematics as a student because I am an analytical thinker and it was not until I learned how to teach mathematics developmentally that I understood where my teachers had failed me. I made it my personal mission to never miss an opportunity to help a student connect to mathematical knowledge in a meaningful way and to develop multiple paths to understanding so that each one of my students will have the opportunity to interact with content in a way that makes sense to them. I have a passion for fostering developmental thinking in mathematics and believe that the way to excellence is building a strong foundation in number sense and multiple paths to knowledge. The way to understand mathematics is to do mathematics, breaking through the barriers of what a student thinks they should know and drilling down to find the obstacles that are holding them back from true understanding.

I have years of experience tutoring both English and French. After graduating with Honors in French and Geography from UNC-Chapel Hill, I moved to France where I taught English. My students' success is very important to me and I will do everything I can to help make sure you succeed!

To understand my perspective on education, it is important to know my background. I am the son of a former New York City administrator and educator. I started learning math at the age of three as I was enrolled in a Montessori school as a toddler. Knowing that the quality of the education students were receiving in NYC public schools, my mother sacrificed and sent me to a private parochial school from 1st-8th grade.I tested into Brooklyn Technical High School, one of the three specialized high schools in New York City, but opted to attended a school that had a pre-med program in my borough. I took anatomy and advanced placement courses and earned a National Merit Scholarship based on my PSAT performance.I then attended the leading historically Black university, Howard University, where I majored in Biology an minored in Chemistry. I went on to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), attend graduate and medical school and I received Masters and Doctoral degrees in Genetics and Human Genetics.I matriculated through the first two years of medical school and successfully passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Exam of USMLE.In addition to the concepts covered in the classes and courses, I am also very familiar with the application processes and all of the standardized tests required for entry into both graduate and medical school as well as their respective prep courses.My teaching philosophy is that any student can learn any concept if it is presented in a way that is compatible with their learning style. The concept of learning style is one that I was introduced to rather late in my academic career. However, I think this is the key and a major reason that many students struggle in school. After being introduced to the concept, I could identify the reasons that I performed so much better in high school biology than I did in chemistry.With this understanding, one of the first things I ask student I tutor is if they know what their learning style is. If they don't, recommend they use a free online assessment to find out. I am currently a junior working towards my bachelor's degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering at NC State. I have prior tutoring experience working with a local Raleigh tutoring company called Brain Trust Tutoring. I can tutor any of the low-level Computer and Electrical Engineering courses, mathematics up to Calculus BC, physics up to Physics C, ACT and SAT test prep, and English. My tutoring style is that of allowing the students to be hands-on and actually work problems and then determining with them the right logic of how to approach different problems.

Tutoring is one of my passions because of the opportunities it gives me to help others and connect with people from all kinds of backgrounds. I have been tutoring for over 4 years in a wide range of subjects, with students from elementary school age to college level. Compassion and empathy are so important when it comes to learning, so true care and understanding are what I strive for in every session. I have a B.A. in Chemistry and Philosophy from UNCC; confusing combination, I know. I've also completed two years of post baccalaureate work in graduate level Biology. I aim to go to medical school and will be taking the MCAT in June. Needless to say, I'm a huge science fanatic and would love to share both my passion and knowledge with you.

As an honors chemical engineering student at NCSU with over 3 years of tutoring experience in various subjects, I've had the privilege of implementing creative instructional strategies. These efforts contributed to a 24% increase in students' cumulative SAT scores and a 15% improvement in AP Biology and AP Computer Science scores. I am genuinely dedicated to excelling in a STEM-related field and have been fortunate to be involved in founding and directing the international computer science competition, "OHacksIO," which brought together over 300 participants from six countries.
