Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Samuel in Utah
This session focused on solving integrals using trig substitution, u substitution, and partial fractions. The student has a good command over the subject matter and should feel confident in his general understanding of the material. One way that can be used to help boost confidence with the subject matter is to spend a couple more hours a week reviewing notes and practicing problems. The additional review will assist in increasing proficiency and reduce the potential for trivial errors. Overall the student was very positive and great to work with.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Katherine in Utah
This session was about factoring and solving quadratic equations. First we factored when a was 1, and then we factored when a >1. The student did a pretty good job finding the factors that multiplied to make c, and add to make b. Then when she solved quadratic equations by factoring, she was able to find the solutions. I taught her a new method called "Circle Slide" and by the end she was doing a great job using that method to factor when a>1. If she will continue to remember those little tricks I told her, she will continue to improve her factoring skills.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Cindy in Utah
This session was designated for ACT Preparation. The student had taken another practice test that we went over today. This time, she was able to get through the complete 60 questions in the 60 minutes, plus she had more correct answers! We talked test taking strategy as we went through the questions that she missed or was just unsure about. I believe that she is getting more comfortable with the test, and her hard work is paying off. I left her with another practice test for the next ACT prep session. Other great news was her success on her last Trigonometry test. I thought that she would do well and was most impressed that she was able to earn a perfect score!

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Sarah in Utah
This session was focused entirely on radical algebra, but it spanned a wide variety of problems hitting not only radical math nuances from adding and subtracting to multiplying and dividing to positive and negative fractional exponents, but also elements of more standard algebra like combining like terms or finding a least common denominator. Each new topic had its own new challenges for her but clear progress was made with continued practice. For homework this week, I'll look to combine radical math with an older topic we've covered like slope or area.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Zachary in Utah
This session was the student for Calculus 1. We worked on sketching graphs of functions. We went over how to find critical values for functions, how to use the second derivative test to determine if a critical value yields a local maximum or local minimum, how to use the second derivative to determine where a function is concave up or concave down, and how to use the first derivative to determine where a function is increasing or decreasing.
