If you are in search of Portland GRE preparation assistance, Varsity Tutors offers services that could be just what you need to get that extra boost in your studies. When getting ready to apply for grad school, one of the most important steps you will take is the GRE, or Graduate Record Examinations. The GRE is one of the deciding factors many admissions officers use when determining who they will accept into their programs. Local colleges and universities, such as the University of Portland and Portland State University, as well as thousands of others in more than 160 countries, look at your performance on the GRE when evaluating your grad school credentials.
Whether you are currently an undergraduate student or are returning to school after time away, fitting a proper amount of exam preparation into your busy schedule is not an easy task. Comprehensive exams of this nature have specific formats and sets of rules that can often trip up individuals who are taking them for the first time. They are designed to test what you have learned in your previous years of study and predict how you will fare in future graduate school classes. If you are looking for additional assistance as you attempt to make sure you feel ready once exam day rolls around, consider signing up for prep services through Varsity Tutors.
What subject areas can Portland GRE prep help me to better understand?
The GRE is made up of three main sections, and our services can help you prepare for all of them equally. The three sections are Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning, and they are administered over the course of three hours and 45 minutes.
In the Analytical Writing section, you are given one hour to complete two tasks. One task is analyzing an issue, and the other is analyzing an argument. This section is intended to evaluate a number of skills, including your abilities to effectively articulate complex concepts, support your ideas with examples, and properly command the English language. Your performance on this section will be scored from 0 to 6.
You are also given 60 minutes to finish the Verbal Reasoning section, which consists of 40 total questions. These questions each fall into one of three categories: reading comprehension, test completion, and sentence equivalence. You will be presented with written passages and asked to demonstrate your understanding of them, as well as correct errors within them. In order to perform well on this section, you will need to be able to interpret context, understand individual parts of speech, and draw conclusions from the information provided. This section receives a score from 130 to 170.
The Quantitative Reasoning section also consists of 40 questions and is scored from 130 to 170, but you are given one hour and 10 minutes to complete it. The main goals of this section are to assess your grasp of basic math concepts and ability to use logical problem-solving skills to solve problems. Question types in this section include numeric entry, quantitative comparison, and multiple-choice. You will need to have a firm grasp of algebra, geometry, and arithmetic.
Test makers often include an Experimental portion that is embedded within either the Verbal or Quantitative Reasoning section and is not identified to you. Otherwise, they may include a Research section at the end of the exam that is identified and optional to complete. Neither of these sections will be scored if present on your exam.
What are the different types of Portland GRE prep that are offered, and what are the benefits of each?
The two main categories of review services offered by Varsity Tutors are prep courses and private tutoring. Each of these approaches has its own distinct benefits, and you can even choose to take part in both of them to combine their positive effects.
When you sign up for a Portland GRE prep course, you will take part in classroom instruction that is, in many ways, similar to the learning you have participated in for the majority of your life. The biggest change is that it will take place entirely online. You will meet with your instructor and fellow classmates to take part in group discussion and activities that will provide you with different perspectives on the material. There are new sessions that start each week, allowing you to choose to sign up for a two-week or a four-week course whenever it is convenient for your schedule.
Taking part in a Portland GRE prep class gives you the opportunity to participate in a familiar learning environment, while also giving you some one-on-one time with your instructor. You can access classes anywhere that you have a reliable internet connection.
If you are the type of student who learns better in a one-on-one environment, you can sign up to work with a Portland GRE tutor instead. This approach allows you to receive private instruction that is personalized to your strengths, weaknesses, and specific needs. Your instructor will help you schedule study sessions that are convenient and focus only on the areas where you need work. You have the ability to voice personal concerns as well as receive feedback on how you are progressing.
Each of these approaches has pros and cons, but you can choose the one that best fits your learning style.
How can I sign up to get started with Portland GRE prep?
When you are doing all that you can to give yourself the best chance to succeed on the GRE and get into grad school, there is no reason that you need to work alone. If any of the Portland GRE prep options offered by Varsity Tutors sound like they could benefit you as exam day approaches, don't hesitate to reach out. Our educational consultants are standing by to hear from you regarding any questions you may have or to get you signed up for the services you desire. You can contact them today online or by phone. Don't head into the exam without knowing that you did everything you could to prepare.

All of these areas stretch from an elementary to an advanced level, and I consider it of cardinal importance to equally value the successful communication both of elementary topics, such as algebra 1 or German word order, and complex ones, such as deontological critiques of utilitarian ethics. I am a professional tutor, teacher, freelance graphic designer, artist and musician. I approach my students with an openness to their learning styles. I love to study languages--especially Italian, Spanish and Japanese! I tutor in the language arts and computer arts--such as programs like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign.... In my teaching, I am always thinking of the real world application of the subject. If my students cannot use what they have learned in context, then I have work to do. Whether it be survival Italian or creating a mock-up for a budding idea, it is my concern that students approach their school projects as they would in a professional setting.
