Varsity Tutors now enables students to begin their journey into the world of college applications with a New York City ACT prep course. If you're like many high school students, you are thinking about the colleges that you might want to attend when you graduate. Even though your graduation date may still be years in the future, it's never too early to start thinking about preparation for admissions exams. The ACT is one of the most common tests that an admissions board will look at when you apply to colleges. High school students, including those at Stuyvesant High School and Staten Island Technical High School, can choose to take the ACT as part of their admissions process. Your ACT score is one of the factors that will determine your acceptance into colleges, so it's important that you put a lot of effort into preparing for the test.
If you are a high school student who is interested in preparing for the ACT, consider a New York City ACT course. Taking the ACT can be a daunting prospect to many students, but Varsity Tutors can help make the process a bit easier. Instructors can help you identify which areas you may need more practice in. Additionally, your instructor can teach you effective study strategies to enhance your confidence. It doesn't matter if you are a freshman at the very beginning of your journey or a senior who just wants some extra pointers. Anyone who plans on attending college can reap the benefits of a prep course.
What topics will I learn about in a New York City ACT course?
The ACT consists of four major sections that center around the primary topics that you studied in high school. These sections are Reading, Science, Math, and English. You may also choose to take the optional Writing portion. If you take the test without the Writing section, it will last two hours and 55 minutes. With the writing section, you should expect it to take 3 hours and 35 minutes. Let's have a look at each of these sections to see what they will involve.
In the Reading section, you will be expected to answer 40 multiple choice questions that test your comprehension of passages. You will have 35 minutes to complete this section. In order to succeed in this area, you must be able to draw key conclusions from short passages and identify connections and relationships within them.
The Science section will consist of 40 questions over a period of 35 minutes. This section will test your grasp of subjects like Earth and space science, physics, biology, and chemistry. In order to succeed in the Science section, you must have a keen ability to evaluate complex scientific problems and implement efficient techniques to solve them.
Once you get to the Math section, you will have 60 minutes to answer 60 questions. This section will evaluate your ability to work in areas such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. You must be able to efficiently analyze functions, probabilities, and distributions.
In the English section, you will have 45 minutes to answer 75 questions. Unlike the Reading section, which tested you on your ability to comprehend passages on a general level, here you must demonstrate your knowledge of topics such as grammar, sentence structure, and the basic foundations of language.
If you choose to take the Writing section, you will have 40 minutes to answer an essay question. In this part of the test, you must compose an organized and coherent essay that demonstrates a thorough command of English. Further, you must also be able to draw connections between different perspectives and support your own reasoning.
How can I benefit from a New York City ACT class?
An ACT prep class is a great option for students who want to tune up their study skills and gain a greater perspective on what they'll be expected to know for the test. When you enroll in an online ACT prep class, you'll be able to collaborate with your instructor and with your classmates in the exact same way that you would if you were in a traditional face-to-face setting. Engaging in this type of collaborative environment has been shown to prepare students and give them a deeper understanding of the topic.
You can learn to expand upon the skills that you have built up throughout your high school career and apply them toward the ACT. In a New York City ACT class, your instructor can help you out with some of the issues that you're struggling with. By brushing up on your understanding of what it takes to succeed on the ACT, you can learn to establish study habits that will serve you well for years to come.
If you have a question about how to solve math problems more efficiently, for instance, this is a topic you can discuss with your instructor and your classmates. If you want to talk about techniques for reading faster and drawing information from passages more effectively, you can get guidance on that as well. Additionally, we can help you find a class that is most convenient for you. Sessions begin on a weekly basis. You can choose between a 2-week class and a 4-week class. We understand that your schedule is busy, which is why we've designed the class to be easily accessible. Keep in mind that you can engage in the class straight from a computer, so you won't have to worry about parking or any of the hassles associated with getting out of the house.

...I pushed to get the best scores I could, but something was wrong. I had a lack of direction. I needed a mentor. When I had my first mentor, I wasn't sure he would be the right one. We worked together for some time, but some of his characteristics were not compatible with my liking. After about two more mentors, I finally selected an intelligent, organized, and serious mentor that was heavily invested in my...

I hope to share my knowledge with others and help anyone with questions and concepts... Go through their problems, and try to be patient with them to help them understand.... Teach them basic concepts and then let them try examples on their own.... Patience is vital.... Ensure they understand the concept, and motivate them.... Try a different approach until they get it. Maybe give an example first.... Go through it with them slowly.... Try to find out where they are and go from there.
