If you want to get started with Nashville SAT prep but don't know where to begin, Varsity Tutors can help. Whether you are a student at a school like the University School of Nashville or Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet School, you will need to take a college admissions exam such as the SAT before you apply to colleges. However, college is so far in the future that most students don't really take the time to think about the repercussions of not preparing thoroughly for the test.
The SAT is what many in the field of education like to call a high stakes test. Your score on the SAT will be considered by the universities to which you apply as part of their admissions process. If you fail to do well on the SAT, you may not be accepted to your school of choice.
When you prioritize your SAT preparation efforts, you are giving yourself an advantage over those applicants who decided to take their test preparation efforts into their own hands. Instead of spending countless hours trying to determine what you need to study and then locate the best study resources, you could be working through the material in a prep class or targeting specific skills with a personal instructor. Continue reading to learn more about the skills which are evaluated on the SAT and how Varsity Tutors can help you identify the best Nashville SAT preparation solution for your academic needs.
What can Nashville SAT prep cover?
Both private instruction and SAT prep courses can help you review for the main sections of the SAT which include Math, Writing and Language, Reading. They can also help you work towards developing the skills utilized in the optional SAT Essay section of the test. You will only have three hours to complete the work required in the three main sections of the SAT. If you choose to add the SAT Essay as part of your testing experience, you will receive 50 minutes to complete it.
The Math portion of the SAT measures your skill in problem-solving, analysis, and algebraic thinking. You can receive a score of between 200 and 800 on this section. The section is divided into two different sub-sections. In one, you will be allowed to use a calculator while in the other you are not. You will have 55 minutes to complete the 30 questions on the section that allows the use of a calculator. You will have only 25 minutes to complete the 15 questions which do not allow you to use a calculator.
The Writing and Language and Reading portions of the SAT have a combined score of between 200 and 800 points. These sections will evaluate a variety of skills, including your reading comprehension and your ability to properly use grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, and punctuation. You will 65 minutes to answer the 52 questions in the Reading section and 35 minutes to answer the 44 questions in the Writing and Language section. If you choose to add the SAT Essay, you will have 50 minutes to answer one question.
What are some of the benefits of taking a Nashville SAT prep class?
Enrolling in an SAT prep class is an excellent option for students who want to be sure they don't miss anything during their SAT preparation. Classes are comprised of individual sections, and new sections start each week. Depending on how much time you want to spend in your review, you can choose a two-week or four-week class.
Your class is held in a secure online classroom setting. The format of the classes is similar to what you are familiar with from traditional classrooms. Your teacher will provide instruction to the entire group and may then encourage students to discuss specific skills and concepts, or assign group work to help deepen your understanding of the material. As part of your class, you will have the opportunity to ask your instructor questions privately just as you would in a typical classroom.
How is working with a Nashville SAT tutor different from taking a course?
When you take an SAT prep course, you are given access to all the material you will need to study effectively for each section of the SAT. However, if you know you don't need an extensive review in all areas, this may not be the best fit for you. Instead, you may want to consider working with a personal tutor who can help you target only those skills you need to develop more fully. This type of personalized instruction can be invaluable for students who are only concerned about a few key areas.
Working with a private instructor offers a greater level of personalized instruction than is possible in a course. When a teacher is delivering academic content to a group, they must go in a particular order as discussed previously. However, they must also then give their attention to each of their students in turn. With private tutoring, there is no need to share your instructor during your private session. You will have the ability to ask questions and receive personalized feedback for every minute of your SAT prep time.
Finally, working with a private instructor can make it easier to fit in the sessions you need to prepare adequately for the SAT. When you register for a course, you are limited to the scheduled times the course is available. The course schedules may not fit with your busy schedule if you have a lot of school or extracurricular commitments, family responsibilities, or a part-time job to factor in. When you sign up for personalized tutoring, you can choose the times that are best for you. You can schedule sessions throughout the week and on weekends during the morning, afternoon, or evening.
