If you are a high school student who is looking ahead to college and getting ready to take your entrance exams, Varsity Tutors is here to set you up with Milwaukee SAT preparation that could be just what you need to reach for your academic goals. The SAT is one of the most widely respected college admissions exams and is used to determine a student's college readiness. Admissions offices at college and universities around the nation use your score on the exam as one important factor to help them make difficult decisions regarding who to welcome onto their campuses. This makes achieving a high score on the SAT one of the biggest steps you can take toward getting into the program of your choosing.
Perhaps you are a junior at Homestead High School who is trying to get into the University School of Milwaukee or another institution locally or around the country. When preparing for something that could be this important for your future, there is no reason to do it alone. These types of comprehensive, standardized tests are no easy task, particularly if it is your first time taking part in one. They have very specific formats and sets of rules that you must abide by. Whether you are just beginning your test preparation process or have hit a wall and need an extra boost, Varsity Tutors offers a number of review options, so you can find the one that works for you.
What subject areas can Milwaukee SAT prep help me to better understand?
The SAT is comprised of three required sections and an optional Essay section. The three base sections are Writing and Language, Reading, and Math. You are given three hours to complete the exam, with an additional 50 minutes if you choose to take part in the Essay section. All questions outside of the Essay section are multiple-choice.
In the Writing and Language section, you will be asked to answer 44 questions over the course of 35 minutes. The questions relate to the written passages that are provided for you. Some passages can include graphs and other types of data, but no math is required. This section is designed to test your command of the English language as it relates to written evidence, context, and standard conventions, such as grammar and usage. You will be asked questions regarding the analysis of the ideas presented in the passages, as well as their structure.
The Reading section is made up of 52 questions, and you are given 65 minutes to complete them. Questions relate to passages pulled from various sources of U.S. literature, science, social science, and historical documents. You are asked to evaluate claims that exist in these sources, as well as things like word choice and writing style. Your performance on this section is combined with the Writing and Language section for a single Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score that ranges from 200 to 800 and makes up half of your composite score for the exam.
The Math section makes up the other half of the score and is also scored on a scale from 200 to 800. There are two portions of this section. The calculator portion is 38 questions long, and you have 55 minutes to complete it. On the non-calculator portion, you have 25 minutes to answer 20 questions. This section covers areas such as algebra and data analysis. You are tested on your fluency with the problems, your conceptual understanding, and your ability to relate math scenarios to the real world.
If you opt to complete the Essay section, you have less than an hour to form a response to a single written prompt. You must read the passage and then complete an essay that analyzes the author's argument and ability to convey their message. This section is designed to show how well you understand the reading passage, as well as your ability to form a well-written response. You will receive a score on this section that ranges from 6 to 24.
What different types of Milwaukee SAT prep are offered, and what are the benefits to each?
The two main categories of SAT review that Varsity Tutors can connect you with are prep courses and private instruction. They each have benefits that are distinct from the other, but some students choose to combine the two and get the best of both worlds.
When you take part in a Milwaukee SAT prep course, the instruction you receive will be, in many ways, similar to that which you have taken part in for the majority of your life. The largest difference is that the course will take place online. You will meet with your teacher and fellow classmates in a virtual classroom to take part in group discussions and lessons and share ideas about how to perform well on the exam. New sections of these courses are available to begin each week, and you are given the choice between signing up for a two-week or a four-week course.
In addition to your collaborative Milwaukee SAT prep class time, you will have the opportunity to meet with your teacher for some one-on-one instruction, if you need it.
If that type of personal instruction is what you prefer in your studies, you may be better off working with a Milwaukee SAT tutor. With a private instructor, you can take part in study sessions that are tailored specifically to your strengths and weaknesses and are conducted at your pace. This gives you more opportunity to express personal concerns and receive regular feedback on your progress.
Both approaches have their pros and cons, but you can decide which one is better suited for your learning style.

...be a subject I enjoy. I began tutoring as a 3rd year student with UWM's Panther Academic Support Services and really enjoyed it. I love being able to share my enthusiasm for learning with others! My goal is to simplify problems for students and help them relate to the material. I hope to take away any apprehension students may have towards a given subject, and maybe even turn that apprehension into enjoyment.... Anyone can learn anything. It just needs to be presented in the right way.
