Varsity Tutors offers a Louisville ACT prep course to assist high school students in preparing for the ACT. The ACT exam is one of two standardized college admission tests that are recognized on a national level. Most students, like the ones at DuPont Manual High School, often chose the ACT as their admission test when applying for college. The ACT is an important test that you want to score well on. Your scores could impact your admission to the college of your choice. This is one of the most important tests you are required to take in order to further your education at a nationally-accredited college or university.
The ACT can be intimidating for those who are unfamiliar with the exam; however, Varsity Tutors is here to assist you with your preparation and help relieve some of the stresses that are common for test-takers such as yourself. Louisville ACT classes will address not only the material that is covered on the ACT exam but will also teach you a variety of test-taking skills. By using collaborative learning, you can directly interact in real time with fellow classmates and your instructor.
There are five sections that are included in the ACT: Writing, Math, Science, English, and Reading. There is an optional Writing Plus section that adds an additional 40 minute of test time to the overall exam. You want to be prepared on test day and have the correct materials as well as a clear mind so you can perform your best. Now let's take a look at each section of the ACT so you can have more understanding of what to expect on test day.
Is the material in the Louisville ACT class the same as what is given on the actual ACT exam?
You may not have the exact same questions that are on your test but you will have the exact same concepts with different questions. The first section is Writing. This section asks for you to write a response from your own perspective in essay format. You will have three different perspectives presented to you along with the question. You must make a connection between your personal response and one of the three given with the question. You will have to showcase skills regarding thought organization, drafting, and comparison through composition using correct grammar. You will be given 40 minutes to complete your essay for the Writing section of the ACT.
The next section we will discuss is Math. Make sure you review the guidelines for the acceptable calculators and tools that can be used to answer your questions. This portion of the ACT exam requires you to answer 60 questions in 60 minutes. Make sure you use your time wisely as you want to provide an answer to each question. You will not be penalized for guessing. Some of the concepts you will be tested on include but are not limited to interpreting equations, number systems, and data collections.
The third section of the test focuses on Science. Some of the concepts you will encounter on the ACT science portion are the analysis of data presented in different formats, using the scientific method, and your familiarity with scientific investigation and experimentation. The questions within this section are presented in multiple-choice format and you will have 35 minutes to complete 40 questions.
As you begin the English section of the ACT, you will be asked to respond to 75 questions within 45 minutes. As in other sections of the ACT, the English section is presented to you in multiple-choice and passage-based format. You are expected to showcase your language skills in combination with your understanding of English and writing production. Keep in mind your language skills will be under a microscope throughout this section of the ACT so make sure you are prepared to display them.
The final section of the ACT exam is Reading. The questions that you will have to answer are based on the first-year college level. You must be able to make connections within different texts and determine word and phrase meanings as well as showcase your ability to summarize ideas. The time allotment is 45 minutes to answer 75 questions.
Throughout the exam, you will rely on your time management skills because you want to provide a response to every question that is asked. If you get behind schedule it is difficult to catch up. A Louisville ACT class will work with you on your time management skills. By sharpening your skills, you will be able to carry what you have learned in your Varsity Tutors class throughout life and your professional career.
